Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Is this crying normal?

I'm a FTM so please excuse my ignorance. My baby boy is turning a month old tomorrow and just a couple of days ago he's been crying almost the entire time he's awake (which isn't so often) but not when he's out of the house, in the stroller or going for a car ride. He never cried this much. He'll cry for about a half hour/45 mins straight. Is it just because he's getting older or something more serious and maybe I should take him to the doctor. He's used to getting about 4 ounces of breastmilk about every two hours but maybe he's wanting more, sometimes he seems a little more hungry and that helps a little bit. I'm just not too sure what is considered normal crying at this age. Thanks

Re: Is this crying normal?

  • I think it's the age. DS was like that and is now just growing out of it at 8 wks. There was nothing wrong with him.

  • I don't know if. Should let him cry that long at such an early age. They are crying if they r hungry, wet or tired.
  • I don't just let him cry. I make sure his diaper is changed, he's fed and burped. I did just read that newborns start crying much more at 3 weeks and peak at 6-8 weeks so I'm starting to think it might be his age. I'll definitely keep n eye on it to see if I need to take him to the doctor.

Does he seem gassy or uncomfortable, or is it just fussiness?  The techniques in happiest baby on the block helped us a lot.  Dd was her fussiest from 6-8 w.

I'm not too sure I know the difference between gassy or uncomfortable and fussiness because I'm a FTM. We do burp him a lot and give him simethicone for gas. what is happiest baby on the block?
