Road trip (we might be crazy)

So we are about to embark on a 3 week road trip up and down the east coast. We are calling it the baby jubilee as she will be meeting many friends and relatives. Activities will include: a wedding, two different beaches, a boat ride on a ferry to get to an island...do any of you STMs or FTMs who have already travelled with your LOs have any sage advice/must have travel accessories/hilarious anecdotes you would like to share? Thanks!

Re: Road trip (we might be crazy)

  • I am actually jealous!  I would love to take a roadtrip, I love traveling :)  My best advice would be to make sure you have a diaper bag with all necessities you use at home easily accessible so you don't have to fumble around looking for anything.  Bring a stroller or anything else your LO likes to be carried around in.  Be patient and be prepared to make frequent stops.  Perhaps you could even map out your route including places you can stop for food and to feed LO.  That would be easier than driving and looking for a place to stop.  Good luck and have fun!

  • I am actually super jealous!  Now is like the best time to travel with a little one.  My only suggestion would be to say that any day you travel make sure you have plenty of time before you have to get wherever you are going in case baby needs to take a break and just get out of the car for a bit.
  • We're also embarking on a big family road trip-- two weeks touring Spain with five little ones, ages 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4, and nine adults.  I'm a little nervous, but I think as long as we keep our itinerary super light and flexible, we'll enjoy it.  I'm guessing you'll have a blast.  Good luck!  Have fun!  And take lots of photos! :-)

SPAIN!! Wow! I went there on my honeymoon and ate some of the best food of my life. Have so much fun!

  • Thanks!  And I love "best food of my life"-- any recommendations on places to eat? :-)

And have fun on the east coast!  Though I don't miss living there, I still LOVE visiting.  If you're going to Boston (Cambridge, especially), I have restaurant recs for you! :-)

  • Right there with you on the road trip. Driving down the eastern seaboard for some beach time! Two days each way, should be an adventure.
  • We travelled 8 hours (NYC to VA). Baby E rocked - we stopped every 2-3 hours for 1 hour. He slept most of the trip but, when he was awake, we kept him occupied with a bright musical toy and his giraffe.
