9 yo old caught beating toddlers at daycare.

I had to stop watching the video because I couldn't take it.

How would you react if it were your child?

Story here.

Re: 9 yo old caught beating toddlers at daycare.

  • I can't understand how that daycare teacher didn't see what was happening, she's standing right there for a lot of it! Surely the child was crying, and she didn't even turn around? And is she the only teacher in there?

This sentence says a lot: "Williams then went into the day care and slapped the boy he thought was responsible. But turns out, it was the wrong boy."

Gee, I wonder where that boy learned to be violent...Sad

  • That makes me absolutely sick. It's one of the reasons I don't want DD in a mixed-age child care setting.  I know this is an exception and not the norm, but I'm always leery of older kids around DD. I just don't trust them to behave well and treat DD properly. Maybe it's because I don't have any older children.

Exactly THIS! I ruled out the 2nd DC on my list b/c the "baby room" was 6weeks - 1 yr.  I thought that was way too big of an age and developmental differnce!!!!

  • I was completely shocked by this. My oldest DD was in Daycare from 6 mo old til I quit back in May.

This made me very glad that we were able to let me SAH

  • I can't imagine.

I'd rip F out of there so fast. Get an awesome lawyer. Press every charge on every one I could and possibly sue.....and feel completely heartbroken ;'(

ditto this. Nothing against daycare. I'm sure I would be 110% comfortable with a daycare before leaving my baby there but still. Makes me glad she is only with me, hubs or our Moms. Ever.

  • Watching that made me sick! Those poor helpless little ones! Honestly if anyone ever did that to my child I don't know what I would do but I know I would want to react the way the one father did.

  • Another vote for not using DC for this reason, although I don't SAH Sad.  I don't feel comfortable with the whole DC setting.  Obviously there are wonderful DC's out there, I just could never concentrate on work not being 100% sure everything was ok.

That dad is a dumb@ss. What good is he going to do for his kids landing himself in jail?

We can't afford day care, so we work opposite shifts, and it sucks, bad. But I'm glad DS is only in our care, or my moms!

  • It would be a mistake for anyone to think that this is something that happens at DC centers everywhere - let's not jump on the holier than thou bandwagon and make all the DC moms feel like crap.

I won't watch the video, as a working mom in my office now, I don't  want the pregnancy homes to make me erupt into an ugly cry.

What I want to know is - why is a 9 year old physically anywhere near kids under 3? At my DC center and at every place I visited/heard about - all the kids are separated into their own classrooms by age. This extends to the playground too - each set of kids as their own play area - their own equipment - all separated by tall fences.

My LO never comes into contact with the little babies, or any kid older than the oldest in her group (18 months). I have zero worry about this.

It was not my intentions to cause any DC moms to feel like crap. I was merely sharing a story. My oldest DD was in daycare for over 10 years. I know this stuff doesn't happen in DC everywhere. But it CAN happen.

In the article it says that they kids had been brought together at the end of the day to get ready for parents to pick up. They are usually separated. But I know of plenty occasions where my daughter was put into rooms with older and younger kids at the end of the day when they condensed into a smaller room once children started leaving. It happend with the three DC my DD went to.

And no mother should feel like crap for her choices of daycare. I am sure that everyone here fully investigated and felt safe with their choice of child care before allowing their children to stay.

I am sure all the victims of this 9 year old, their parents felt the same way as you about how you have zero worry. But fact of life is...s*it happens. It was obvious that the daycare teacher wasn't doing her job.

I love how this post tured into a Yes for moms who dont send their kids to DC and a No for those that do.

I also love all the comments about how this can happen at DC from people who have never sent thier kid to DC a day in their life.

For the record kids at my DC are NEVER comingled.  At play time there is a fence btwn the play areas and when they gather the kids at the end of the day the never EVER gather more than 2 groups together and the 2 groups are always the next age class (older or younger).

This is absolutely not true. Non-DC mom's can have an opinion/thought/feeling without it being an attack on DC moms. No one is criticizing anyone's choice here, just expressing feelings.

Honestly I was getting the same vibe from some of the comments here. I assumed it was just me being oversensitive, but all of the sympathy for poor pitiful moms who have to send their kids to daycare kind of felt like a knife in my heart. (again, my reaction made me assume that it was ME, not what yall were actually saying that was the issue, since I know yall aren't hating on working moms)

But I do agree that it is not true that this could happen at any daycare. I am very, very sure it could never happen at my daycare. Based on the video and some of the language in that article, I can tell you that daycare is not of the same caliber as mine.

But, this is beyond atypical behaviour for a well-adjusted 9-year-old.  His actions are not merely the result of opportunity and negligence on the part of the DC staff (who hold some responsibility too)...but yeah, there's something further going on with this kid.

And for the sake of not adding another post to quote other PPs, I am totally feeling the same holier-than-thou vibe you were.  .

  • I think this is going to piss a few of you off... but you really should put your big girl panties on and get off taking everything personally. All because a few of us were grateful that we don't have to worry about this at all. I am not sure how that makes us "holier-than-thou."

I didn't realize this was DC moms vs non-DC moms, and I can't find anything wrong with any of the post or anything saying you suck as a mom because your kid is in DC.

Now since we can't all be grown ups and discuss something horrible that was allowed to happened to some very innocent children and how your reaction would have been if it had been your child it happened too, then I am off to find something better to do.
