ok, so im a STM ... but i NEVER got contractions EVER. with my daughter, my water broke but i wasnt having contractions.... they had to induce me. i will admit to my wussdom and say the SECOND they mentioned petosin i begged for an epidural! (neither of which were in my "birth plan")
sooooooo heres my dilema : i think im having braxton hicks contractions. how do i know???? i mean i can read as much as i want about them, but nothing is as descriptive as a women thats "been there, done that, and what i got was a baby" kinda thing
lol
im feeling alot of pressure in my abdomen and i feel like some one is taking a hot poker to my lady stuff. minor cramping and of course the average back pain ive been feeling for a week or so now.
ive felt little man starting to move around in there, so im pretty confident hes ok. im waiting for hubs to get home from work and then we may go to the hospital if my OBGYN doesnt call by then. im slightly neurotic bc of my history with MC - but i feel like this is probably normal....? so i harassed the poor receptionist at the office to have one of the drs in the practice call me back ASAP.... still nothing.
Re: contractions??? HELP lol possible TMI
a BH contraction will make your uterus feel like someone poured cement in it and turned it to stone... when you feel the pressure/tightening, try poking around at your uterus to see if it feels rock hard or a lot harder than usual. Also try to observe if the pressure/tightening and lady parts feeling comes and goes or is constant. BH contractions are not constant.
The other night I had to go to L&D triage because I was having constant cramping mixed with contractions and it wouldn't stop (tried everything, resting, drinking lots of water, stretching etc)... They diagnosed me with a UTI and gave me anitbiotics. But before the results on the UTI came back they asked when the last time I had sex was (which was that morning) and said sometimes it can be due to that.
But as always, if it's worrying you, better to go in and at least have your nerves put to rest!
Sorry if any of this was tmi! :-)
thank you
its constant in the sense that it lasts a few minutes but then is gone. it comes and goes pretty randomly. i know i am prone to UTIs, so that is DEF a possibility but it doesnt really feel like one.
how are you feeling?
My UTI doesn't really feel like one either but I called my OB and their office confirmed it came back positive... so antibiotics it is. If you can, get some cranberry juice or supplements.
I'm feeling pretty good, still my normal other preggo symptoms... I wish this elusive second trimester energy would kick in! lol.
They gave me a prescription for the cramping too so that has gone away, and the antibiotics have seemed to kick in. Now I just feel like a kid with growing pains! My ligaments and lower areas are soooo tight and get pulled so easily!
Heads up: The last time I was taking the cranberry extract supplements (pre-preg) noticed the specific brand I had warned to check with dr if pregnant. Not sure if the warning is on all brands or not.
(by the way, thank you to those who posted on possible causes & what sort of feeling it causes; definitely not TMI; the "filled with cement" analogy is definite one I'll remember .... hope won't need to)
I, too, am a second time Mom who suddenly having contractions WAY early. I had to be induced with my son, too, because not a thing was happening to my cervix, and contractions were non-existant on my due date.
So, when I suddenly woke up at 18 weeks in extreme "cramp" like pain. I flipped. I started getting sick to my stomach like I had with contractions after the pitocin with DS. The pain had gone all the way around to my back, which I only could associate with back labor which is what I had with DS, much later and only with the help of pitocin mind you.
Anyway, after that, I was really freaked out. Went to the doctor to find that I was also dilating, went to have my cervical length checked to find out it was thinning. However, after all is said and done, 3 weeks later, no baby. I started having contractions on Monday again for the first time I tried to return part-time back to work, and flipped out.
You should be timing them. If they're happening regularly, or getting more intense, they're likely real contractions. If they're infrequent, change with position, don't get stronger, they're likely BH contractions. I know it's hard to tell, because I didn't have BH with my first either. I think my doctor thinks I'm crazy now, though, because contractions had pretty much ceased by the time I got to the hospital, but they had been happening every 9 minutes for over 2 hours.
If you think you're contracting, can't get a hold of a doctor, just go to the hospital. It will ease your mind. Trust me. However, I have been told that we can contract at this point because "if you stretch any muscle it will want to contract back to its normal size" according to my doctor.
thank you ladies for all of the helpful info. it ended up just being bh contractions. i am neurotic lol
ambrlynn8 - ty for the heads up! i will b sure to just go to the hospital if anything like that does happen. its weird how our bodies change so much from one pregnancy to another!
