Natural Birth

Cramping/contractions question

I'm a FTM, so forgive me if this is a dumb question. The only consistent symptom I've had during pregnancy has been cramping. I talked with my doctor and she said that it's nothing to worry about unless they are unbearable and are accompanied by blood (meaning miscarriage). I've wanted to give birth naturally for many years, but now I'm wondering... If I feel the cramps so easily while I'm only pregnant, do you think I'll feel more pain when I'm in labor? I know, dumb question and I don't know if it makes sense. I'm just trying to prepare myself.

Re: Cramping/contractions question

  • I don't think one thing necessarily correlates with the other.  Some women report contractions feeling similar to cramps.  That wasn't my experience, the sensation was in the same place, but it felt totally different.  The nice thing about contractions vs. cramps is that with contractions you get a break.  You feel one coming, it grows in intensity, peaks, then washes away, and you feel pretty good in between them.  Not sure if that fully answers your question, but I wouldn't worry.  I would say I have a medium pain tolerance.  I'm not a totally baby, but not tough by any means, and I didn't have a problem getting through it :)
