Skin irritation in neck folds?

LOs skin on her neck is irritated I'm assuming from formula and drool running down her chin.  I "clean" her neck before bed every night with just a warm washcloth.  Is there anything else I could be doing?  It doesn't seem to bother her but I don't want it getting worse or anything if I can help it.

Thanks!

Re: Skin irritation in neck folds?

  • I put a little bit of Desitin in DD's neck on her bath days and this seems to be preventing redness and irritation. I've also used a little vaseline but it doesn't work as well.

  • Our pedi gave us Nystatin for this.  One swipe when redness appears clears it up.

  • I wipe it clean, make sure it is comptely dry and then put some Buttpaste on it.  First time I did this it cleared up in a day.

  • I had this problem last week. Make sure to clean it and really dry it. And like a pp said, try desitin. I put it on a couple days, and it cleared up.

  • Wow, I had no idea about the desitin! Thanks for the tip, I'm going to try that tonight!
  • I just got back from the pedi about this, she said hydrocortisone 1% cream until redness goes away, then aquaphor.

  • I also actually wipe her neck everytime I change her diaper, and pat it dry. Keeps it from getting funky in there. We haven't had to use anything, but our pedi said Aquaphor.

  • I just swiped it with a wet face cloth and then made sure it was dry and that was all it took. Cleared up in a day.
  • We try to keep it as dry as possible but I wipe it with a damp cloth using a tiny bit of Cetaphil then I swipe some aquaphor under there. I then use burts bees dusting powder every once in a while carefully putting a tiny bit on my finger tips, rubbing it in so it doesnt go anywhere near her mouth or she doesn't breathe it in at all and kinda dab it on there. When I say carefully, I am a nervous wreck about doing this because they can breathe the powder in and that is no good but I try to make sure there is no possible way for that by barely using any and rubbing into my hands away from her first. It cleared up over night.
