Hi, all!
I was just reading another post and I saw how MUCH some of you are giving your kids! I am worried that now I'm not giving DS enough... He would probably eat more, too, if I offered it... Here's what we eat everyday: 1/2 cup plain whole milk yogurt, 1/4 banana; bottle 6 oz; puffs; 2 oz veggie or fruit puree; goldfish (his fav); bottle, bottle again; dinner of noodles and 2 oz veggie puree and maybe a slice of cheese.
Perhaps this isn't enough? He loves to self-feed so I'm LUCKY if I can get the veggies in him!

Re: Food Amounts? Crazy!
How old is he?
If he loves to self-feed, I say put away the purees and give him what you're having.
That's what we do. DS has what I'm having for lunch and what we've made for dinner. I keep putting things on his table until he is done eating.
ETA: I agree, it doesn't seem like he's getting much, especially if he's only getting 2 bottles. They stop eating when they're full, so offer until he's done.
I agree about the purees.. waste of money if he self feeds.
I give DD2 2-3 oz of purees at bfast, and at lunch or dinner, but not both. After she finishes the purees and at the meal she doesn't have them, she feeds herself table foods. If what we're having that meal is appropriate for her, she gets some of that. She eats that until she decides she's done, and she'll usually let me know quite loudly that she's ready to be out of her high chair :P
By this age with DD1 we had moved on from purees for the most part. DD2 is small, so we try to make sure we have a decent idea of how much she's eating, which is why she still gets purees twice a day. She also gets 4 bottles, spaced about 4 hours apart.
As long as your LO seems satisfied and is growing/gaining well, don't worry about how much he's eating. He'll let you know if he wants more or less
DD1 Feb 2010
DD2 Sept 2011
We let DD self feed starting around 7 mos. she has almost weaned herself from the bottle.
At 10 mos, she woul eat a piece of toast, an egg, and 2/3 of a peach for breakfast. That's just an idea of how much she eats at a given meal.
Thanks, all. I did a hard boiled egg (1/2) this morning and yesterday morning and he seemed to like that. I know there was something about no egg whites, but he seemed fine and I didn't think there was a good reason not to. I also cut up some beets and he liked those... I will do beans (I got some eden organics ones) for more protein... Should I still cut them in half?
We're not purely vegetarian but I eat mostly fish and even that I really only get out. I'm mostly vegetarian so I just don't cook a lot of meat although if it's healthy (ie, not cold cuts or hotdogs or something) I'd be open to it. He LOVES fish, though... I give him the inside of fish and chips (not the fried part) when we're out and he gobbles up a ton.
Thanks for all the ideas!
