Easy Protein for Breakfast?

I don't always like to cook something for breakfast but when I don't, I feel like Em doesn't get a good source of protein for that meal. It's supposed to be "the most important meal of the day" and I feel like I should be starting her out w/ something more than toast and fruit but I can't always cook. Are there good breakfast-types of protein that don't need cooking?

Re: Easy Protein for Breakfast?

  • I'm guilty of mostly doing things like waffles and fruits for breakfast

Also most instant breakfast meats give me the creeps,

but if you want something quick, scramble an egg ini a bowl and microwave for 40 to 45 sec. comes out a little rubbery but that just helps her pick it up with her hands.

  • Greek yogurt has a lot of protein.  Peanut butter on toast.  A quick scrambled egg.  Maybe some low sodium ham cut into chunks.

  • agree with PPs. Greek yogurt, peanut butter, or microwaved scrambled egg. Or I purposely buy frozen waffles that have more protein in them. The Van's power grains have 5g of protein per waffle, which is almost as much as an egg.

  • I am lucky if I can get LO to eat something with protein for ANY meal, but we do greek yogurt almost every morning. He won't eat eggs, but that's another easy way to get protein. Since you don't want to cook, you can hard boil a bunch of eggs ahead of time and use those. You can also microwave-scramble or fry an egg...not as good as done in a pan, but gets the job done.

  • Oh, I forgot about microwaving eggs. I tried that once and thought it was terrible so I never did it again! lol, would I be terrible if I gave them to her anyway?! I guess if she'll eat it, it wouldn't hurt! Thanks for the suggestions, keep them coming if you've got any!

  • You could hard-boil the eggs too.  Make a couple at a time so you don't have to do it in the morning. Have them peeled and ready to go.

Believe it or not, I've never hard-boiled an egg before, so...would I reheat them or just serve them cold? And whole or chopped up? How long would they last in the fridge already cooked and peeled?

Google "perfect hard boiled egg" to get instructions for cooking.  I would serve it cold and cut into pieces.  I don't know what would happen to a warmed-up HB egg.  I would serve him a hard boiled egg that was in the fridge for up to 3 days.  3 days is sort of my left-over rule when it comes to LO.

I believe if you microwave a hardboiled egg it explodes...so I?d go with cold as well.

  • Ty gets the same breakfast pretty much everyday, so I feel bad about that, but it's pretty balanced, so I don't feel too bad!

Every few days I'll scramble up some eggs for him and sort in to little T&T containers.  I'll quickly reheat those in the morning before leaving for DC, with some turkey sausage that I've already cooked and crumbled up.  He gets another container of yogurt and fruit puree!  It's a great way for me to use up the fruit purees in the cabinet!

Oh, and I throw some cheese crumbles in with the eggs sometime, because he is my child after all, and he loves cheese!

ETA: and when I'm not sending eggs I'll send a waffle spread with peanut butter!  (And still the yogurt and fruit!)
