Whooping cough -? Xp from Nov '12

Ok, so Im starting to worry jussst a tad. Im in a friends wedding tomorrow, and rehearsal is tonight. The bride text me this past Wednesday telling me that a bridesmaid had to drop out- her 5mo old baby has Whooping cough and the state has them both quarantined for 5 days. (From my understanding mom had declined the vaccine) I've never met this lady, but she has met up with the bride about a week or two ago... -Dumb question, but should I be worried about coming in contact with the bride? Really not much I can do about it now, no way I can back out the day before the wedding- but I guess Im just worried.

  • Has the bride received a booster recently or have you? Also, did Sophia get the vaccine?

Sophie has the vaccine, but I do not...

Should I try to get it asap? Does it really matter if I don't have it- and she does?

  • If your LO has had the vaccine then she should be fine.  It is only an issue until they receive the vaccine. I know there was a whooping cough outbreak in our area when DS2 was born so the hospital strongly urged DH and I to get the vaccine. The hospital gave me my vaccine and DH went across the street to the department of health the day they told him to get it. Our family doctor didn't have the vaccine in stock.

  • You should try to get the vaccine. Walgreens usually give them out.

Your daughter is protected more than someone not having the vaccine, but she could still get whooping cough from you if you get. No vaccine is 100%.

You will protect her better and you if you get the vaccine.

ETA: you can get the vaccine while pregnant if you are past 20 weeks. I forgot you are pregnant. Ask your ob/gyn the risk vs benefit of the vaccine. At 26 weeks, I would think you and the new little one would be fine,  but just ask incase.

    Have fun at the wedding!

  • I'd get the vaccine and drink emergen-c packs several times a day for at least 2 weeks.

Thanks ladies for all of your input!

I called my DDs' Pedi and he said he would be more worried if I came into direct contact with the infected person, but since its a mutual friend who she visited for one day a week or two ago, its no big deal.

I will plan on getting this vaccine after DS is born... thank you everyone
