Eating dinner with LO - Clicky

I hear people talking about feeing LO what they eat at dinner and I was wondering how many people eat dinner with their LOs?  My DD eats so early (6:00) my DH and I just can't make it happen.  [Poll]

Re: Eating dinner with LO - Clicky

  • M eats dinner at about 5, so there's no way we could have a family dinner with her. I SAH so I've pretty much adjusted my own schedule to eat when she eats, but DH is never home by then.

Most of the time. Sometimes DH works late and if she is hungry I'll feed her. I usually try to wait as long as I can though.

  • DH and I both get off at 4:00, so it's not an unusual for us all to have eaten before 6:00.  We're old like that :).

I like the habit of us all eating together and saying grace even at this young age.  It's never too early to start establishing family routines and modeling table manners.

  • DH's schedule is very unpredictable but while he was on 2nd shift for awhile, DD and I got in the habit of eating at 6pm. Now that he's back on first, I still usually have dinner prepared by then. If he makes it home, he eats with us. If he's going to be a little later, like w/in a half hour, I'll try to hold off but DD gets really grumpy. Most of the time he can make it by 6:15 or so.

  • I chose sometimes. On nights that we go jogging together, I prepare DD's dinner around 5:30 pm, we all go for a jog after that, and then DH and I have dinner when we get back home. I only feed her before us because she's in bed by 8 pm and I don't want her to eat dinner and immediately go to bed. We do eat breakfast all together in the mornings and then since I SAH with her, she and I have lunch together every day as well.

DH and I really enjoy exercising together (such a huge stress reliever) and this is the only way we can really do it and bring her along with us.

This.  We eat together every night except the nights that DH plays softball.  We all pray together and then eat. When I am working, I am home by 5 at the latest. DH varies aroun 6ish. I just give DD a snack if she is really hungry. I keep her in her high chair and roll her around the kitchen as I make dinner. I give her utensil to "cook" with.  Then we all sit down together. I love it!

  • On hubs days off we all eat together but on the nights that he works and get home later she gets something made separately for her because she eats much earlier than we do...

SS- Caroline and I eat dinner together at 7pm.  Her daddy works late so he eats when he gets home (usually about 11).

  • DD eats at 6:30, I eat with her every day. DH does when he can make it home in time. He's supposed to stop work at 5:00 and works about 15 min from home but at the moment works crazy so often he gets home around 7 :(

  • We've always eaten fairly early, either 6 or 6:30. Sometimes one of us will give him a puree while the other one cooks at 5:30, and then when we eat he sits in the high chair and has some crackers or banana. But usually he eats most of his dinner while we eat.

I stayed at my friend's house a month or so ago, and they wait til after their 2-year old goes to bed to start cooking. We didn't eat til 9:15 and I was STARVING!

  • I picked sometimes, three days a week Bell eats dinner at daycare.  The other days we all eat together.  Its just easier for us to have them feed her all three meals those days so she's happy when we pick her up.

  • it's pretty rare, since I usually use that time while she's in her highchair to make our dinner. I'm feeling convicted though after reading this post...this is something I always said I would do and it has totally fallen by the wayside. I'm going to try to do better about it!

This is how we are too. We all eat dinner together every night at 7:30. During the weekends, breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all together.

  • DS used to eat at 5:30, but we pushed it back to 6:30 so he could eat with us. He gets a snack at 5:30 now.

  • I picked SS because I always eat with the kids, but DH often gets home later and either eats quickly while the rest of us finish dinner or while I'm getting the kids ready for bed.

  • We try to eat together as often as possible.  I think it is important to eat as a family and since she much prefers to feed herself, my H and I may as well feed ourselves too :)
