How Would You Change this Costume? + Annoying SIL Vent

We received a TON of hand me down clothes from my H's friend. She also knows my brother and thus my SIL handed down a bunch of stuff to her. Follow me now. This means that some of the clothes we have once belonged to my niece even though we didn't get them directly from SIL. I don't give a damn. I'm an environmentalist, work for a non-profit, and cheap, love recycling, and therefore will take free used stuff wherever I can get it. All of the clothes are adorable, and in great shape.

The problem is that everysinglefuck!ngtime E wears something that once belonged to my niece my SIL feels compelled  to tell every person she sees that she bought it. It is soooo annoying. "Oh that used to be Naomi's - you're welcome!" is her favorite refrain. 

She gave us a halloween costume that is super cute - a dinosaur that belonged to her son and that he wore last year. For all the reasons listed above I would love to use it. But I'm trying to think of way to change it up a bit. I'm thinking fairy wings and glitter to make it a dragon. What would you do?

    Ugh, that's really annoying.  I'd probably have started responding with "What, this?  But Friend gave it to us" like you don't know that your friend got it from SIL.

    And the fairy wings sounds like a great idea!  Very cute.

    Like the dragon idea.

     

    As for the bitchy SIL, I would say 'oh, I got this from friend.' and leave it at that. I hate when people are like that. What is she trying to say or accomplish with that. If someone got me on the wrong day, I would probably strip A and fire the outfit at her. But I may also just be p!ssed off and hormonal at this point.

    That's annoying. Are any of her clothes marked? If so, I'd stop putting DD in them when you're going to see SIL.

    To answer your question, though, the fairy wings sound adorable! Go for it.
