Ladies who have had this done after a m/c, how long should I expect to wait to get the results? A few weeks, a month? I know it will be a little while, but I am curious, and the nurse who called to check on me today didnt know the timeframe.

Re: Chromosomal Abnormality testing?
I meant the testing from the d&c, so thanks.
I just started reading about karyotyping this morning, but dont know if that is premature for me or not to be thinking about. I havent had anything else done yet, but plan to figure out my next steps when I meet with my obgyn on the 9th. I am not sure if I should start with some basic/initial testing with my ob or if I should go ahead and call the RE right away. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

June 2013 - Carrier found! Could this really happen?!
~All AL always welcome~
The d&c test result came back literally a month from the date of procedure. I'm sure it will be 3-5 weeks...pretty standard.
As far as karyotyping, we only had 2 losses, and they tested. My OB told me it's pretty standard after 3 losses, she just knew that I was ready to do as much testing as we could. The karyotyping is a blood draw (they did mine when they tested for clotting disorders...about 15 vials of blood-argh!).
Again, good luck...FX if they find anything, it's an easy fix, and hopefully you'll feel like you have a game plan.
Thank you so much! I just want to have a plan in my head for when I go to my appt in two weeks. I'm trying to learn as much as I can so I understand what testing is available, and what I can expect.

<a href="http://s279.photobucket.com/albums/kk121/behapybride/?action=viewIsn't it all so frustrating? This whole process is
My doc is very proactive, and I know a lot of docs aren't. So, I think it's great that you're doing your research. I had never even heard of karyotyping when I chatted with my doc. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers, for sure.
P.S. I LOVE your wedding photo....just gorgeous!
It took about a week for karotyping for DH & I and about 4 weeks to get the full genetic results from the D&C.
You should absolutely skip over an OB and head straight to an RE with your loss history (assuming your insurance covers it, etc). OBs have a very limited range of testing/knowledge for fertility issues including RPL and I would hate to see you waste your time and money seeing someone who doesn't have the specialty that you need.
This is the part that has me very worried. I dont have any infertility coverage and am afraid they will tell me that my RPL is classified as infertility and then none of the testing will be covered. Do you just call the RE and explain this situation before scheduling an appt? Is it possible that they can do testing but it could be considered something else other than infertility, or do I need to get the testing in order to have a diagnosis of RPL? I would assume a lot of ladies have found themselves in my position. Honestly, this is the part that has me really scared.

<a href="http://s279.photobucket.com/albums/kk121/behapybride/?action=viewIt is. I have just been numb and hardly cried off and on since I found out Monday, but it seems like I have hit a wall in the last hour. I dont know if its the hormones freaking out after my d&c or what, but I just cannot believe this is happening. I should probably head back over the the MC/PL board now so I can cry my eyes out.
I really do think my doctor is going to be proactive, but after everything we've been going through, I also dont want to waste my time and the possibility of this happening again. I know everything is still very fresh, but I cannot even comprehend the idea of TTC again if I have no answers or possible idea of what could be wrong with me. I just dont want to do this again.
And thank you for the complement, the wedding photo is one of my favorites... even if it doesnt show our faces, lol.
Thank you Petra. I appreciate your kind words.

**lc in sig & testing of #2 mentioned**
30-60 days is pretty standard to regenerate & test chromosomes (it takes longer if the tissue is in poor shape). I was super impatient while waiting for results since I got a full genetic work-up w/#2 in 2 weeks from a CVS test.
Some states mandate IF coverage, so you might be able to see if yours is one of them. Or, call your insurance company and ask them what your policy specifically covers/doesn't cover. Also ask if you need a referral to see the RE.
I'm up in Canada so things might be different here, but it's been two months and I still haven't seen my results. My doctor told me that if I don't get a call by the end of July to follow up with the clinic which I plan on doing next week.
I'm so sorry for your losses. Big hugs to you.

is there anyone you can go talk to to get a realistic timeline of what's going to happen? I feel like the doctor I saw left me with nothing, which has been pretty unhelpful. I had a long conversation with one of my close friends who is an L & D nurse. It was nice to talk to her and get a good picture of what's going on.
I wish doctors/nurses would prioritize letting you know what to expect and try to help manage emotions while still giving you medical care.
There are 2 different reports that can be done after a D&C - one is the pathology report where they examine the actual fetal tissue. It will tell you if it is normal fetal tissue or if it is i.e. a molar pregnancy. This came back 1 week after my D&C. We never did genetic testing after my 1st loss but I know that can take a few weeks to get back since it goes to a specialized lab.
If possible, I would go straight to a RE to do RPL testing. In general, it will be more thorough than if you do it with an ObGYN. Insurance coverage can be an issue....you are sure you have no Infertility coverage whatsoever? Some insurances will have diagnostic coverage but not treatment coverage. RPL does fall under infertility unfortunately even though the definitions of each are completely different. I've learned this the hard way as I've called my insurance in reference to my "treatment phase." (I only have diagnosis coverage).
I'm not sure how proactive you want to be in this whole process. But I would suggest that charting is a great way to know what your body is doing after a loss. This is how I realized that my luteal phases were short and when I went to the RE, it helped narrow down what was going on.
I recall you are from S FL. I'm down here too so if you need any suggestions on RE's or anything else please let me know.

Thanks for the info. We saw heartbeats with both pregnancies prior to miscarrying so I dont think that a pathology report would be needed as they wouldnt have been molar, etc.... but what do I know, lol? Based on the answers I have gotten here, I am pretty sure the chromosomal testing will take a few weeks, but I will check again with the doctor's office.
I have been charting since July 2011 and plan to start charting again in about a week once or when my bleeding stops (whichever is first). I am pretty positive that I have an LPD based off of all of my charts.
I checked with my insurance and they told me to have the RE send them a breakdown of what testing they would plan to do and they would say if it was covered or not before I did anything.
Yes, I am in S. FL and will PM you about the RE I am researching and planning to contact.
Thanks!
