Trying to gauge if most people would find it odd/weird/bad to use a mother's first name as the first name for a little girl (not a junior as middle name different).
Obviously this is very accepted for boys, but you don't hear about it with girls very often and just wondered why and thought maybe there were some bad associations or beleifs about it?
Re: Girls with the same first name as their moms?
In general I'm not a fan because I find it confusing. If the first name is something like Elizabeth and you could have different NNs, like Liz for the mom and Betty for the daughter, then I think it would be sweet. But for someone like me, the name Heather has no NNs so it would be a friggin' nightmare of confusion.
I think if there aren't NN options I'd rather use my FN as the daughter's MN.
NMS...but to each their own. I couldn't even imagine having a little girl with my name too. DH refuses to have a junior too....just not our thing.
I've gotten into genealogy and I've noticed that they used to do this a lot more in the past. My great-grandmother had the same FN as her mother (Helen) but they had different MNs. I've also noticed situations where mothers and daughters are both named Elizabeth and one goes by Eliza.
It's interesting to me that while it remains common for a son to be named after his father, you rarely see daughters sharing the same name(s) as their mothers anymore.

I find it confusing and unnecessary for both men and women to give their children their own first names. That's what surnames are for.
