How to PT for night time?

He's been potty trained for six months, but we still do pull ups at night and often they are wet, but sometimes not. Should I wait until he is having dry pull ups to push the overnight potty training or should I just get rid of them and encourage him to use the potty before bed and let him get the hang of it that way?

  • DD was night time PTed almost at the same time as day time.  We've always had her go to the bathroom right before bed and as soon as she wakes up.  I also don't usually give her anything to drink too close to bed.  If she asks for water I'll just give her less than 1/2 a cup

  • DD was always soaked each morning, but we drastically limited drinking 3 hours before bedtime.  It took about a week of wetting her bed, but she got the hang of what it took.  I think she would forever wet a diaper at night if we hadn't just done it.

Good luck, not all kids are the same.

  • You can't potty train for night. It happens when DC's body is physiologically ready.

My 6 yo has been potty trained since 2.5 years and wakes up with a wet diaper (Goodnights) every morning. She doesn't wake up for anything. Oh the other hand, my 2 yo sometimes asks to use the potty when she wakes up at night. Each child is different.

  • I still diaper DS at night.  He goes potty right before bed but he wakes up wet 50% of the time.  I try to limit liquids after dinner, but I don't feel the need to force him to train at nighttime (i.e. letting him wet himself & the bed).  He's young and small, so I just don't think developmentally he's ready.
