doesn't anyone have UOs anymore?

Geez...used to be so fun to read!

Mine:  I am not a Chik Fil A fan.  (Actually, I have never even eaten there.)  Apparently there is now a great divide in the country regarding CFA and their anti-gay stance.

  • I'm not sure why it's such a surprise about Chick-fil-a's political views.  Their highly conservative Christian views have always been widely known.  I mean, they're closed on Sundays so their employees can go to church, for heaven's sake.

I know...and I think part of the reason I have never had CFA is because they are closed on Sundays when I do most of my shopping!  I think, at least from what I saw in a FB friend's post last night, is that a mayor of a city (Baltimore maybe?) banned CFA or something because of their views.

  • I agree Amber. Big surprise from CFA. (sarcasm font).  But, at the same time, I know a lot of Christians that think gay people should have the right to marry.

My UO: Well-done burgers and steaks are the best.  I love dry meat.

I knew it was one of the B's.  Until last night, I couldn't figure out why the flare regarding their views.  I thought perhaps it was because their opening a new one outside the mall by me until people outside of my area started posting stuff about it.

Agreed- Christian does non necessarily mean anti-gay or anti-gay marriage.  I DO know, though, that the founder is a Southern Baptist, though, which does tend to speak out against gay marriage.

And well-done meat is a waste of a good dinner!  Blech! The more you cook meat, the less flavor it has.

One of them here.  To me whether or not a person should be able to get married has nothing to do with my religious beliefs.  I think it's about human rights, and I don't believe it's the government's place to deny someone a human right just because it goes against a religion's belief.

And on this one.  You are CRAZY and I feel a strong urge to introduce you to the way meat is suppose to be eatern. Stick out tongue

My UO: I think it's silly to get all high and mighty over human anatomy when it comes to teaching children.  I just don't get when someone talks about hating when parents call a penis a  "wee-wee" or a vagina a "hoo-ha" for example.  Don't get me wrong.  I will teach my kids the proper terms.  However, considering I rarely say penis and vagina in reference to private parts, I probably won't make a big deal out of it with my kids either.  And I really don't care how "immature" that makes me.

I only eat well done meat as well.  Any hint of red and it induces a vomiting reaction in me.  My DH loves his meat as rare as possible....we do not go out for steak dinners or anything these days.  I went with him once when we were just dating and his steak was literally bleeding all over his plate.  I had to run to the bathroom and took my dinner to go.

  • I don't like the Olympics. I like what they stand for but there is no way in hell I want to watch any of that crap. For as long as I can remember they always fell while we were on vacation...and this year will be no different. There's one TV where we go and of course everyone likes the games. I'd much rather watch baseball...or read a book. Or poke my eyes out Stick out tongue

I love the Olympics and I'm sure I'll watch WAY more than my fair share.  In college, my sorority sisters made fun of me for recording the opening ceremonies (on VHS, too, so it wasn't just a press of a button, lol.  There was time and skill involved).

Hahahaha that's awesome!!!! I remember recording things on VHS...it was a pain!! My whole family loves the games and we would watch together as kids. I remember not liking them from a fairly early age, no idea why but I'm just not a fan.

Unfortunately, the mayor has no right to ban an establishment from opening in Boston.  However, I hope that Chick-fil-A takes the advice of the mayor and decides not to open.  I have a feeling that if they do open, they will not last very long.  We are obviously a very open state since we were the first state to legalize gay marriage.  I just hope more states follow our lead!

This Ohio girl totally disagrees with that as well!  I like my steaks medium rare...bordering on rare.  My burgers a little bit more done...on the medium side.  In addition, I dislike steak sauce...a properly cooked steak should not need steak sauce.

  • My UO is that I think Thursday is the worst day for UO- I always think of things early in the week and by the time Thursday rolls around I can't remember them!  The same is true for FFFC being on Fridays.  All my funny ideas are early in the week.

Yeah. My steaks and burgers always have to be well done. I also don't like wine. Any wine, ever

I 1000% agree with ALL of this. Believe it or not, there was a time when I lived in the dark too.  Medium was about as rare as I went and it was not preferred. lol.  Then, I went to a friend's house who was a chef.  He didn't ask you how you wanted your steak cooked.  You got it the way he served it.  It was the perfect medium rare (bordering rare) steak.  To this day, I have never looked back.  Now, even medium seems way over done for my taste.

  • I like meat medium. Slightly bloody and drenched in A1, which is apparently an UO too! Ha.

I guess it's an UO that I could care less about how Chik-fil-a feels. I live in GA (which is where CFA got started, where the owner is from and lives, etc) and it's been a known fact for years that they send free food to various conservative politicians, anti abortion/gay marriage organizations, etc.  I honestly assumed everyone knew their stance considering they are closed on Sundays. Maybe that is why it doesn't bother me. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying I agree with everything CFA does, I am just not shocked like apparently many of Americans are.

  • I think alcohol is nasty, plain nasty. I don't get why people drink wine or beer. They taste awful and I've had cheap and expensive ones all taste the same to me. I only drink frou frou drinks (pina coladas, etc).

All of this. I live in south Alabama (Bible Country) and am not shocked at all over how CFA feels.

Really I don't care. I like their chicken, that's it.  Don't really care about their religious beliefs.

My meat MUST be well done. If I get a burger & it's pink in the middle I won't touch it!! Steak must be well done also. LOL I told a waiter one time that I didn't want to get worms. I know I'm crazy, but the thought of gnawing on raw meat is just gross to me!!

  • My UO. I am so over the CFA debate ;)
  • Gosh, I want to respond to so much - Christian does NOT equal ignorance or hate in any form ; bring on the bloody meats! (also an Ohio girl) - but I'll skip to my UO.

I think that anyone who says "hum, maybe I should call child services" and does NOT is part of the abusers' supportive circle and should be punished as well. Not as harsh but should be. Here in Germany - like in the US - people are required legally to call child services but the consequences if they don't are basically zip.

What happens? Well, for example, a mother living in a nice area of a nice city overdoses on drugs and her two year old DIES OF THIRST curled up to her cold, dead, stinking body. No one called CPS; they eventually called the police because it stank. Yeah, two dead bodies will do that for you.

One of the neighbours said (roughly translated): "Well the child had been crying so much recently, how could I know it was serious?"

REALLY???? What if you had called to protect the child? Maybe the drug use would have been interrupted before the mom overdosed. Or the baby rescued before he died of thirst. So many maybes.

As a survivor of abuse, I could write an entire book about all of the times that a simple, anynomous call to CPS would have helped me.
