At Home Daycare- North Durham

Hi Ladies,

 My husband and I are looking for daycare options for our little one that is due in January. We'll need daycare starting in March, but wanted to start looking around now. This is our first child, and we know NOTHING about daycare. We feel the more places we look at the more we can form an opinion about what we're looking for. That being said, we'd love any referrals that anyone might have. We're in the north durham area, north of 85 near Duke and Guess road, so we're looking anywhere between 85 and Latta Rd/Infinity Rd area.

Thanks =)

  • First off congrats!!

    The state has a site where you can search for day cares http://ncchildcaresearch.dhhs.state.nc.us/search.asp

    Reading the report can tell you if a center had any violations, complaints etc. I wouldn't place too much stock on the star rating though. I've had several friends who LOVE their 1 star home center, and have had issues with higher rated locations.

  • I second this website, that is how I found our day care for our son. It really helps so you aren't wasting your time visiting day cares that have horrible violations/complaints and that site will tell you what age ranges the day care is licensed for.

  • We are fortunate to be able to work out childcare between myself & hubby, so I don't have first hand knowledge of daycares. However many of the nurses I work with use Sunshine Smiles Academy on Broad St (one block from Duke St, near Durham Regional & Central Medical Park) and have nothing but good things to say about them. Hope that helps!

  • Thank you all very much for the advice. I used the website and set up an appointment to meet with an in home daycare this week. She was very nice and was completely in line with what my husband and I are looking for. We'll probably look at a few more places, but this was a great start. Thanks also for the specific recommendation on Sunshine Smiles. I'll make sure to add them to my list.

     Congratulations to you all too =) I'll definitely check back when it's time to look for pediatricians, lol. So many things to think about as FTM.
