Who will deliver your LO?

Midwife or OB or someone else?

I'm having a hard time deciding on whether I should have the MW or OB deliver.

Re: Who will deliver your LO?

  • I don't get a choice. There are 6 doctors in my practice so whoever is on call will deliver my baby.  Unless of course we end up having to schedule a c-section. In that case, my OB that I use for all of my GYN stuff will be the one I choose.

  • I have been seeing a midwife and hope that she will be delivering our LO. If not, there are two other midwives in the practice, and I am supposed to meet with them later in the pregnancy. In case they are the ones delivering him, we will have already met. If all those fail, the practice also has three OBs, but that should only be necessary if I need a csection, unexpectedly.

No experience, though, as a FTM.

Only advice (FTM Syndrome again) is find someone you feel comfortable with... you know, it's not that easy opening your legs up for someone that you can't stand when they open their mouth.

The OB I see is the only one in the office.  He is the same one that delivered DS, so he will be delivering this one as well.

Whichever OB happens to be on duty.

This. I appreciate that my OBs rotate, because this means they know they're free of a bias to push a certain timeline on moms. They're at the hospital for a certain number of hours whether I deliver in that timeframe or not. If not, I'm the next shift OB's problem.

  • Whichever of the fourteen OBs in my practice is on call will be the doctor who will deliver LO.

I never even consiered a midwife. I guess because I was a c-section baby (even after my poor mama went through 36 hours of labor and everything under the sun to deliver me naturally) I know a CS is a real possibility and I don't want to have to be passed off from a MW to an OB mid-labor if anything were to change.

Please pardon any typos -- I'm typically bumping from my phone

  • Well if this baby comes as fast as my last one, I'm just hoping that someone OTHER than me catches it! ;) My plan is for one of the three rotating OB's in my practice to deliver me. I would definitely be very comfortable with a CNM if there was one in my area but the nearest one is about 45 min away and my last labor was very fast... so that's not an option!

  • My Midwife, but DH is thinking about actually catching her. :)
  • We have a bunch of MWs and I have an OB that I've seen twice so far. I love every MW so far and my OB is pretty cool too(all female, not that it really matters). I'm leaning towards which ever MW is on call. Either way I know I'll get awesome treatment in there, MIL has been an L&D nurse there for 30+ yrs.

  • My OB - otherwise, if she is unavailable, whoever is on-call at the hospital.

  • 100% midwife.  I've made it clear that no OB is allowed near me, unless my midwife decides I need a c-section.

I'm not sick or critically ill, I'm pregnant.  I definitely don't need surgery, so a midwife is plenty qualified.

  • Midwife, at home.  It should pretty much be DH's and my show, provided everything goes well.  DH will catch.  :)
  • Whoever is there will deliver. I'm hoping its my midwife. Im kind of more comfy with her, since she's done my check ups and EVERYTHING else. Lol. With being a FTM I don't like opening up my legs for anyone, but since I had to with her once it should be easier the other times!

not to mention my OB is a man and I have not met him yet. However he did deliver me and my nephew. If I need a c section the of course it will be him.

  • My one of the midwives from my practice is going to deliver me unless something happens which might require a C section in which case she would transfer me over to the OB on call from the group they are partnered w/.

Do you know both the MW and the OB?  Are you equally comfortable w/ them both?

I've met more MWs so I'm kind of leaning towards that right now.

  • We're delivering at the birthing center at the hospital where my OB is affiliated, so we have to use a midwife at my OB's practice. My OB will be on call in case something goes wrong.

  • OB. There are 3 in my practice and I've met/seen two of them before. I have to make my rounds with #3 after my next visit. I'm hoping it's not her just because I'm really comfortable with my main OB, and the second one did both of my D&Cs when I had miscarriages, so it would also be nice for her to deliver too after everything.

One of the OBs from the office one of them is always at the hospital so no one strange.  I was induced so I ended up seeing all 6 of them during the time I was waiting.  Love them all.

I plan on having your MIL do it!  So don't hog her! HA!
