What are you reading to LO?

I've been talking to the baby randomly and i end up just rambling. Not that the baby cares or knows what I'm saying lol but I want to start reading a book at night to baby. And having DH do it too. Either another night or a different time? Whatever. Anyway ... What do you read to a baby in your tummy?

What do you sing to it? Any ideas? Children's books? Shakespeare?

  • DH reads to the baby, that way it knows his voice because he is away a lot and can still read over FaceTime or Skype. Right now, we're reading Pippi Longstocking.

    Last time, we also read:

    The Jungle Book

the other collection of short stories by Rudyard Kipling... can't think if it has another title than that off-hand..

    Half Magic

  • H reads to baby, and I play it music. I figure it hears my voice enough Big Smile

H reads whatever - we bought a few children's books and MIL brought a few over on Monday. This morning he read "The Very Busy Spider" by Eric Carle.

We decided to read/buy books we will use as the baby grows and if we read enough it will "recognize" the book.

Same with music - I buy "real" music. Meaning it has the read piano/violin/orchestra music and not the poly-tones and synthetic sounds some children's/baby CDs have.  The CD's are ones we plan on using later as well like during nap/bed time and again hope the baby with "recognize" and find soothing.

Great suggestions! Thanks! How long does he usually read for? How wonderful that he can do that even when he's away.

P.S. I just responded to you post on "Potential Boy Name" from jenyjeny...I had to put on lol

  • I sing to LO. Mostly Beatles, some Blue Rodeo, and other random songs/lullabies.

I read a lot with DS, so baby heard quite a few stories from us!

  • How cute! I don't really talk to my baby yet, but I definitely listen to a lot of comedy stations on Pandora so that happy feelings will find their way to him.
  • So far, Bump posts only because she needs to be educated.... already she knows what her chances are of having a fetus baby, as well as a butt twin.  She's hearing about all the fantastic, wonderful changes during pregnancy (that my mother never warned me about), and how lucky she is that I won't name her fish-jello.

Friend suggested playing songs that will be their lullabies after being born.  Will probably start doing children's books... gotta get her used to noise because in the middle of August she'll be in a lot more noise throughout the day.

  • This poor baby just gets to hear what I read to DS.  Currently DS likes Skippyjon Jones and everything by Mo Willams, so we've been doing a lot of those two.

  • I was given a few Dr. Seuss books that I read to LO. I usually just read to LO whenever I have time or feel up to it.

  • I've been reading Bernstein Bears and Madeline mostly bc they were my old favorites. I've also done the napping house, I love you this much, and a few others. Pretty much whatever we have in our book collection so far I've been reading.
  • Not reading to the baby - I dont even own any children's books yet. :)

  • When I first read the post title, I was like thinking oh man we are such bad parents this time around. I haven't been reading this LO anything. We played a lot of music for DD when I was pregnant with her. But then I remembered that I read to DD each night before bed. We read at least 3 or 4 childrens books.

  • Last night I was reading Game of Thrones to her Stick out tongue

I also enjoy singing silly out-of-tune songs to her that I'm making up on the spot. Every night I make DH talk to her before we go to sleep.

I'm not sure how well she can hear at this point, but I'm having fun with it!

generally, he'll read a couple of chapters of Pippi, or a full short story. Either one is long enough for me to fall asleep. I have fallen asleep over an internet connection SO many times. I have trouble falling asleep the nights he can't read to me. Um, I mean, to the baby. Stick out tongue

  • We've been planning on it, but are really too lazy to do it. But I have a lot of kids books for teaching, so I'm going to use those and pick up some more from Half Price. We're also gonna try to play music for LO, and will see if we can use DH's dj headphones for it.

  • I read childrens book.   My favorite is 'the fish'  by *** bruna  It's an oldie  but my dad always read it to me  and I have the same beat up book that he used.

  • Some of the books we've read to LO:

Eloise, Madeline, Go Dog Go, Hop on Pop, Oh Baby, Oh Baby the Places You'll Go: A Book To Read in Utero, The Giving Tree, Clifford gets a Kitten (I found it at a used bookstore and thought it was great because we have a kitten that looks like the one in the book)

I honestly can't remember what else. We just read whatever books we have around the house from our childhoods. We haven't read in a couple of weeks. Slackers. We need to get going on that again (we've been staying up and watching Downton Abbey. Sorry, baby.)
