woke up with charlie horse two days in a row!

Yesterday, I woke up with a charlie horse in my right leg. This morning it was in my left! Talking with others I have heard that other women had a lot of them while pregnant. Ugh! How many of you have woken up with a charlie horse?

  • I have had that too.  Drinking lots of water and walking helps

  • I feel you... If you have a glass of OJ or a banana before bed it may help. I had them horribly when I was younger and very active athletically, and the extra potassium before bed really seemed to help me.

With all my pregnancies I always get charlie horses starting in the 2nd trimester.  It doesn't matter that for years I've had a banana a day habit or that I work out 4-5 days a week.  The only thing that works for me is a unwrapped bar of plain Ivory soap.  I just put it under my sheets near my legs and I never get that again.  Google it- it works but there's no explanation.
  • Yep, many times with each pregnancy. i take extra calcium & magnesium at night, and it helps. Along with lots of extra water thru the day.

Humm.. never heard of that one, but now I am curious!

My grandmother's friend (long time ago) said the calf muscle cramping would be due to not enough potassium.  Have heard about that along with magnesium, calcium and hydration being factors.  Agree with PPs who have suggested eating a banana (that used to help me), drinking water, milk, and calcium fortified OJ.  All of those have helped to prevent them for me, but when it is happening, it's NO fun.

  • Yup. I have the same thing. Once I woke up SCREAMING. Most nights it is tight but not screaming bad like that one night. I figure I just have to put up with it...
  • Woke up this morning with a Charlie Horse too! Woke up screaming. Luckily my husband is out of town so he didn't have to go through that with me but my dog freaked out!

I work from home and yesterday I pretty much sat in my computer chair all day. I think that had something to do with it.

Just have to make sure I'm staying hydrated and making sure my muscles are getting exercised and stretched!
