Baby Names

less than 4 weeks left.... my FINAL name post??

Baby girl is due in August! I've posted for opinions before, and we're for sure on the first name 'Ray-uh' (pronounced that way, not spelt).

1- What would you say is the best spelling for that pronunciation? I worry that the usual spellings for it may look wrong on paper and lead people to call her 'Ree-yah' or 'Rae' since it's not a name thats common. I've seen Raya, Reya, Rhea, Raia, Raiya, Reyah, Rheya, Raeya etc etc....Some of which are obviously horrible due to the vowels!

2-The middle name will be Leighann. Does that spelling look bad? What are the alternatives? Leann just looks like a mispelt 'lean' to me lol. Would having it be two names seperated by a space be weird? (lee ann)

Instead of making this clicky just throw em at me ;)

Re: less than 4 weeks left.... my FINAL name post??

  • All the spellings look a little strange to me. I guess I would go with Reya. Don't use Rhea... that's an actual name and it's pronounced Ree-uh.

I think Leann or Leeann look much better than Leighann.

  • I'd go with Reya Leanne

  • 1- I like Reya, I prefer it to Raya, which I think the spelling is more accurate to the pronunciation. But when I see Reya, I read it as Ray-uh. Fun fact: Rey = King in Spanish.

2- My name is Lianne (Leanne but spelled funky, thanks Mom), I suggest you spell it Leanne if you decide to go with Leanne, because I've been called Lie-Ann a lot lol. Leann looks incomplete to me, but Leighann looks like overkill in my opinion. I'm also not a fan of the two names being separated by a space, but I'm biased, I suppose.

  • Raya Leanne would be my first choice, followed by Reya.

  • I would spell it Raya.  Seems like that spelling would eliminate some mispronunciations.

  • Raya makes sense because it's like the name Ray with the "a" at the end, but like pp mentioned, people might think it's pronounced like Maya.  I think that Raya or Reya are good choices for the spelling- you're probably going to be correcting people regardless, but I think that's common with any "different" name.

I vote for Reya Leighann! My middle name is LeeAnn(spelled as shown) and I love the way you chose to spell it!

  • I never knew how to really pronounce Rhea. I went back and forth between Ray-uh and Ree-ah. But I like this spelling the best. I think most people might not know how to pronounce it by looking at it no matter how you spell it.

I don't really like the spelling leanne though. It looks like it could be mispronounced as lee-ann-ie  too. Might just be me. I like the spelling Leann or LeeAnn. I have a friend with the LeeAnn spelling like that.

Rhea LeeAnn looks pretty to me.  =)

  • Obviously I love it! :) Like I said we did the Rheya due to H's mom and sisters middle names being Rhea...we just did our own spin! I get lots of compliments on her name and I think it's very original.

Also, what about Leanne? funny you're doing an L middle name too :) my DD's is for my late great grandmother
