Intro and Infertility Question

My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for a little over a year now. I have been sent to an OB who started me on Clomid and did bloodwork. I am responding to the Clomid according to the bloodwork results, but so far we have not had any luck. My husband is having a SA next week and then we will schedule a follow up with my OB if this cycle isn't successfull. I was just wondering if anyone else has been down this road before and would be willing to share their experiences with me. I think my Dr. wants to do an HSG next and possibly send me to an RE in San Diego. Oh and my husband is a Marine so we use the Naval hospitals if that matters. Thanks!

i have been working with an RE for 1 year and a half. did they do monitoring with your clomid. my new re doesnt (navy hospital) but my re at yale did and it gives you a lot of feedback such as how big your eggs are, lining, number of follicles etc. Tricare has paid for everything up to this point. next cycle we are going to do IUI which will only be 110 at the MTF. there is a facebook group for infertile military wives and they are wonderful if you are interested I can invite you

We were about to start the process when I got pregnant, so haven't gone as far as you, but I have to say from what I did talk to my doctor about it, I'm surprised they started you on Clomid without having your husbands Sperm count in. I am assuming that is what SA is referring to, if not, my apologies. My Doc explained that at least half the time (I forget the exact percentage, but it was higher than I expected) infertility is caused by the male, so he wanted to check sperm count and mobility before he started me on hormones and did anything too invasive. If my husband was infertile, then it didn't matter what they did to me, type of thing.

After checking my husbands Sperm, turns out it was OK, not great, doc figured it was actually him, not me. I ended up pregnant the cycle before I was set to go on Clomid, so I never got further in the process than the initial info.

No, they haven't been monitoring me. I haven't started seeing a RE yet, so it is just my OB. All they did was CD21 bloodwork, which came back normal. And yes I am very interested in the facebook group, I will PM you my name!

Technically, my husband was supposed to get his SA done a couple of months ago, so we would have probably just started the first round of Clomid before the results were back. He chickend out though and I just now talked him into scheduling it. We were pretty sure it is me because I wasn't ovulating (before I got pregnant in November I was having maybe 4 periods a year). But who knows, it could always be a combination of both of us.

Thanks everyone for your responses! I hate that other people have to go through this or have gone through this in the past, but I do like knowing that other people have been here and made it through to the other side.

I've been going through fertility treatments for 4 years at 3 different duty stations. Have run the whole gauntlet of treatments - Clomid, Femara, IUI with injectibles, IVF, and now moving onto FET. PM if you have any questions. I'd be happy to help!

Hello,

My husband and I are 7+ (almost 8 years) now, without pregnancy - No miscarriages, nothing. . . I'm continuing to be surprised to hear wives say they were put on Clomid.

I went and got a referral to the fertility specialist and they sent me directly for an HSG, I wasn't given the opportunity for drugs or anything... So I knew right away where I stood.
Once you have the HSG and they find that you are physically without defect, then after you find out exactly what you're working with, then you'll know more clearly what your steps are.

   I don't mind saying exactly what I had going on - When I went in for the HSG, they found that I had a large uterine septum. I had an extreme septum going from the top of my uterus to the opening of my cervix. This alone does not cause infertility, but will hinder ones ability to get pregnant. I recently had a hysteroscopy, and laporoscopy and had endometreosis removed. I am still within a week of having had this done. I am currently taking Estrogen, and will take progesterone after about 30 days. (Estrogen to build up the lining of my uterus after the removal of the septum, and the progesterone to allow me to shed that lining, and to "have a bleed".) Then my husband and I are on "TTC" duty. =D (Boy am I looking forward to that!! I haven't    ... ... for like 3 weeks now =D lol)

   My BEST advice would be to find a doctor outside of the Naval Hospital. I had such terrible experiences there that I refused necessary OB/Gyno procedures/surgery due to their ruthlessness.
   The 1st HSG I had was on base, and the women had so little regard for my feelings that when I started crying from the pain she was very curt and rude regarding this and the continuance of the procedure. (If the liquid is cold, and the push it into your uterus too quickly you'll have incredibly cramping that will last for the next hour or two until your uterus warms up and calms down.) * She also had no trouble telling me that "I couldn't have babies", without blinking ... She stated that I had an abnormality, and that ^^ . . .    She didn't state anything other then that. So I went home and told my mother, my husband and my best friend that I couldn't have babies. I bawled for days ... come to find out from my current doctor that I can have children.
SUCH TERRIBLE STAFF! (sorry, I'm ranting.)
Anyway, find a doctor with amazing bedside manner, that will listen to your fears and go as slow, and speak as kindly as you need them to.

I've found a doctor in the place that my husband and I are currently living, and upon my 2nd HSG, I found that they can be literally PAINLESS - so the ill regard they had for me on base was obvious.

I'm sorry my message is so long. If you know something is wrong be persistant. That is the best message of advice I can give.

I went to my doctor, and told her that my husband and I have never (literally NEVER) used protection and hes always finished inside (wayyyy TMI sorry.) and we were still all for not after 7 years. My doctor then decided that I should go home and try for a year and THEN come back. I'd never heard such a stupid thing in my life. It was just a way for the doctor to put me off for another year. *rolls eyes
Well, I couldn't imagine being another year older (I'm in my late late 20's) and I thought stupidly that I'd be taken seriously when I went in for the appointment.
So, I went in about 3 months later and spoke with the same doctor, and I assume she was annoyed or something but sent me right through. They must have known something was wrong, to send me for an HSG first and foremost.

** Added later = Also, my husband had a SA directly after my HSG, he's also done another just to make sure everything is alright.
The naval hospital after the HSG was going to set me up for an MRI but we PCS'd before that would have happened. (Moved in Nov. and MRI would have been in Dec. )
I had bloodwork done after my 2nd HSG, and everything came back normal.

Thank you guys for all of your replies! I actually found an OB that I REALLY like, and she listens to all of my concerns and answers all of my questions. I would actually have no problem calling her and discussing what is next for us except she is ironically on maternity leave! I know that Navy Doctors can be extremely frustrating, I have had some horrible experiences as well. When I had my miscarriage, the Dr. told me "Don't worry, its not a real loss" ummm listen douche, I had been trying to get pregnant for almost 6 months at that point and for the past 10 days had been thinking everything was wonderful and I would soon be taking home my baby. Its a real loss to me, I don't care how you want to define it. BUT I have learned that they are very hit or miss, same as civilian doctors. So I am not willing to jump ships yet, mostly because we live in a secluded area and civilian doctors are no better unless I venture out about 3 hours. If I do that I can't afford any of the treatments because all my money will go to gas and never being able to work! Sometimes you just can't win! Thanks again for all of your replies, I really just wanted to hear what others experienced so that I can have some idea what to expect when I go in next month.
