Two Under 2

Would LOVE suggestions from babywearers!

I wish I had kept up with babywearing with #1 more than I did because it makes life SO much easier. We started when he was about 3 weeks old and he LOVED it. Kept up with it until he got squirmy around 4 months, then recently picked it up in the past 2 months. So much easier to get things done around the house when he just wants to snuggle.

To the point, here's a question for all other babywearers out there--what's your favorite for a newborn? I used a sling for #1 which worked but wasn't the most comfortable or practical for nursing. My plan (fingers crossed that it works) is to wear #2 as much as possible so that #1 can still have attention and I can still have free hands. I've been playing with Girasol wraps and ring slings, I'm looking for favorites to nurse in and overall comfort. Any info is greatly appreciated, thank you!

I loved the K'tan the first few months. It's so easy to use.  Now we mostly use the Beco Gemini but I'm glad we have both.

  • I used the Baby Ktan for the first 3months, but I don't know how to nurse in it. Then I switched to the ERGO and LOVE it so much!

  • Both of my girls loved the ring sling at first.  I like it but it really hurts my back.  I also love my BabyHawk mei tei for newborns.

  • I like my Beco Gemini, I'm able to nurse in it on the go, if we are at the park or store I wrap a A&A blanket over us, since I pull the boob over the top of my shirt. Love that it works from 8lbs up. I would love to try a ring sling, I've heard they work well for nursing on the go.

  • My #1 for overall comfort & nursing ease is a mei tai. You can tighten the straps however you need them, & if you have baby in a front carry while you're wearing a nursing top, BF is so easy. BF is easier in a ring sling, but the mei tei is comfortable for longer IMO.

I never really got into wrapping much, but I have just about every other kind of carrier. I still carry DS almost daily, & I've found wrapping is the most comfortable now that I have a big pregnant belly. Once I can wrap over my stomach again, I'm going right back to front carries in a mei tei.

  • With DD I used a MY from day 7 on until 7 months when I lent it out and still haven't got it back!! I now use a kinderpack and a Girasol wrap (size 5). For back carries and a RS for hip carries (quick ins and outs). This time arround I'm planning on using my RS with number two and my woven.

  • I exclusively use woven wraps. I have back issues and any other carrier hurts me. Nursing is possible in any carrier, it just takes time to get the hang of it. Do you have a babywearing group in your area? That is a great place to try out lots of options.
