That one survivor of the Colorado shooting plans to sue A) The theatre for not having alarms on their exit doors that sounded when he came in (not sure when that became manditory) Holme's doctors for not knowing that he was going to shoot people, and C) Warner Bros for releasing violent movies that may have inspired the shooter.
I feel like this person is obviously channeling their anger to the wrong places. Any thoughts on this? Just thought it was interesting! Here's the link in case you wanted to read:
Edit: Totally not posting this to offend anyone/remind anyone of the shooting! I realize it's a very sensitive subject. I was more posting because I honestly feel bad for the theatre considering they have gone through this traumatic experience and I'm sure they (and Warner Bros especially) feel like this is somehow their fault when in reality I don't think it is at all. And now people are going to try to blame them.
Re: Just read on Yahoo (NBR)
I definitely think that should be fixed, I honestly did think all exits in theatres did have alarms, but I don't believe that it's a law. People are so crazy and money hungry! It's insane. How you could be suing innocent people over this already is beyond me.
I agree with what the article you linked had to say, those are all fairly weak claims. It sounds like a settlement play to me.
"A new baby is like the beginning of all things--wonder, hope, a dream of possibilities."
People are lawsuit happy. If I were on a jury (not that it will get that far), I wouldn't give them money. I would take the stance of how upset could you be that you are purposely dragging yourself through the event again. If I would award anything, it wouldn't be anything over the medical bills. WB didn't cause this man to go crazy. The doctor did shoot them nor did the theater.
People have tried to sue for similar incidents. I don't know how you can blame any of those listed.
He will get a settlement and we won't hear anything else about it.
Andplusalso, how can theaters have alarms on those doors, people exit out of those doors all the time.
People like him are the reason coffee cups say "careful hot" and hair dryers say "don't drop in tub" and plastic bags say "do not let children play with"

I feel like every "cause" or "solution" people have come up with after this horrible tragedy is just skirting around the major issue of gun control. I'm sure there are people on this who are going to disagree with me, but gun control is the conversation and change that should be happening right now- not costumes in movie theaters, or door alarms, or professors need to open their mail faster.
This reminds me of the Hillsboro shooting where students pulled the fire alarm to draw students outside where they were shot. My school took out the fire alarms. Or after Columbine, where the shooters wore trench coats. My school expelled a kid for wearing a trench coat. (Perhaps I just had an idiot principal)
What is the common factor in all these tragedies? Guns.
That said, if I were Warner Brothers and made $161 million in the first weekend. I would make a lot more than the current $2 million dollar donation they made to the victim's health care.
Yea, because criminals follow the laws.

This. The talk about how gun laws need to be more strict is silly...if they had done an extensive background check on Holmes there was nothing there! He had no criminal background, so why shouldn't he be allowed to have a gun? Guns don't kill people, people kill people. There is no way to know who is a crazy psychopath and who is a normal person when selling a firearm. You can blame my gun-toting republican father for my opinions on this issue.
Yes, please tell me why I should be subjected to strict gun laws. I live on a 27,000 acre ranch, 4 days out of the week it's just me, my LO and dog. no sheriff is going to save us faster than the gun I have the freedom to carry.

Gun control laws only work for the people that are sane enough to follow them, which aren't the people who end up going on rampages. A friend of mine said the best "solution" I've heard yet which is that more mental health awareness should be available, as in especially at universities where students observe each other, if more were aware of the signs of a mental break and could help get the person help it may reduce the occurances of these events. I don't think there is a perfect solution in this, crazy people will still do crazy things because they don't follow rules, regulations or moral codes or they follow their own defined sense of those.
Please excuse some of the language, but I think this is the PERFECT solution:

Also, I read that they are suing the doctors because he sent the campus psychologist detailed plans and drawings of what he intended to do on July 12th. They had advance warning, so I feel that there is some possible liability there...

I agree about the mental health awareness. I think mostly because I work in mental health and a lot of my clients started showing signs of their mental illness in their late teens and twenties.
I live in rural america and I agree that a gun is going to protect you much quicker then the two county sheriffs that take care of our whole County. Bad guys don't follow the laws thats why they are bad.
