If your DH/SO travels...

when will he stop, or will he? I told my boss I wasn't going to travel after 30 weeks but we haven't said anything to DH's company about his travel schedule. I was thinking to ask that he not travel after 36 weeks.

Re: If your DH/SO travels...

  • 36w.  He doesn't travel much, but I definitely wouldn't be okay with travel after 36w.  One, because of the obvious "have a baby and he's not here" worry.  But two, because you've got a toddler and by that point, single motherhood would totally suck.

  • DH only does inter-province travel for work (he has been in the states a lot lately interviewing though).  He has put in a request at work to not go anywhere after I am 36w.  And he is at his last interview this week, he isn't taking any past this.

  • My husband travels from Minneapolis to California, Puerto Rico and Ireland.  He's planning to stop before 36 weeks, also.  I think I would be okay a little later if he really needed to go to California, because it's a non-stop flight back, but not Puerto Rico and definitely not Ireland because they're all day travel!

  • DH has some travel for training coming up and some hospital site visits. He told them that after mid-August he wouldn't be going to faraway sites. I think they just tried to schedule his site visit for a hospital that's a few hours away rather than flying.

  • MH has a wedding around 36 wks.  He's still debating.

I'm just pouting that I'm missing our only CA winery wedding.

  • DH has his last work trip of the year when I'm 37 weeks. He won't need to go out of state again until March. He does need to travel to Los Angeles pretty frequently but that's only a few hours away.

I have no idea how soon after LO arrives he will need to travel again. Honestly, I can't even allow myself to think about it because the thought of being alone for multiple days with a newborn terrifies me.

This is a fear of mine too. How am I going to get two kids to sleep all by myself!?! How will I do daycare drop/pick up!?!  I think I will ask my sister to come visit and meet the baby for DH's first trip away.

  • Hopefully he'll be done with the out of state travel by 36 weeks. The first trip after LO gets here should fall when she's about 5-6 weeks old.  I'm a scared FTM and have already arranged my mom to stay with me that first trip.

Me too!! 2 kids and DH gone is freaking me out. Fortunately I should have help fm my mom and MIL for about 1 month, but after that I am on my own. Yikes!

DH just started a new job and is traveling now, but is planning on no travel after 36 weeks. But with a new job, he's not sure he will be able to do it. Let's hope!

  • I told DH to cut off travel at July 1st, which was just about 30 weeks.  It was a super conservative date, but with twins I just didn't want to risk it.  It ended up being a smart date to choose since my bag ruptured June 30th and I was hospitalized July 5th.

  • DH is out-of-state this week (he returns Friday evening), and this is his last trip for a long time, hopefully. He's requested that he have no more travel until the babies are a few months old, and I'm crossing my fingers that his request is honored. I have no idea what to do with a toddler and two newborns on my own.

  • My DH stopped flying anywhere that requires more than a 5 hour flight at week 32.  He will stop flying anywhere that is not a day trip at 36 weeks.

I'm kind of cheating, myself, because I am flying to Japan for work (from Hong Kong, so about 4 hours) at week 35, but it's an emergency.  But definitely no more serious travel for either of us after 36 weeks.
