Baby Showers

Shower food

My mom is throwing me a shower & wanted my input on food. At first we were thinking of doing more of a meal & having enchiladas, rice, beans,& whatnot but now she is thinking maybe we need some snackier/finger foods.

I'm not sure on the number of people but there are a lot of people being invited(women only), we have very big families, friends, & our church family. We are having it in the fellowship hall of my church @ around 2pm & we will have access to a full kitchen.

What do you suggest is better for a shower, a meal or snack/finger foods? Thanks for the help.

Re: Shower food

  • I will preface this by saying that where I live (rural Canada) full meals at showers are unheard of... heck, printed invitations for showers are also unheard of... (I know etiquette police, but that's how it is here, a shower here is SUPER casual, not the wedding-like affairs I sometimes hear about on here)... but to me, 2pm seems like it wouldn't make sense to have a full meal. I would have ALOT of finger foods though... better to have too much than not enough I aways say.

  • I definitely agree - finger foods! Especially since your group is so large. Unless it is customary in your family to have full meals at a shower - I think finger foods when everyone can eat as they please is better and probably easier! Good Luck - I hope you have a great shower!

  • What about a variety of sandwiches, a fruit platter, veggies, and a nice cake?:

  • At that time of day I would go with finger foods (lots of them).  If you have people who will be traveling an hour to two I would make sure to have some heavy appetizers (meatballs, roll up sandwiches, taquitos, etc).  Most likely they would be traveling during lunch time so will arrive hungry.  I don't think you need to have a large meal unless your shower extends into the dinner hour.
  • I think if you can do a whole meal that would be awesome.  It might even be easier because you can set it up buffet style and let guests eat as they want to.  With bigger serving dishes you don't have to worry about keeping them full, or arranging trays, like you do with finger foods.
