DS will be turning 1 next week, but I thought I'd pop over for some advice here, hoping for some advice from those who have been through this and have older LO's. DS used to mow any finger foods I gave him when we started introducing them, he still only has 1 tooth so we went fairly slow, and were still giving purees. Now he is starting to shun many foods, and just throws a lot of stuff on the floor. Won't even try it. He used to like so many things he won't even put in his mouth now, and it's getting frustrating. I am trying to limit the purees at this point, but I have been giving them at some meals because I want him to get enough variety, and not just the bread, bananas, yogurt, cheerios and cheese he'd choose to gorge himself on. A friend IRL told me it is common and should change once he starts walking and the value of the food means more to him, but is this something any of you have encountered? Any successes as to how to deal? I have posted on other boards before, just looking for a fresh perspective. We have tried spoon feeding the food he doesn't like, him feeding me, me eating off his plate, putting cheese on it etc. it is all hit or miss. Any ideas or experiences are appreciated! TIA!

Re: 12 month old not wanting finger foods...
My LO has always been picky about what he'll try. We're still mainly on purees, but he does eat all the finger foods you list. Lately I've been making veggie muffins to sneak some good stuff into something he'll eat. I also give him whole wheat blueberry muffins, which he likes. It took him a long time to start liking purees, and now he eats almost anything pur?ed, so I guess it's just going to take him awhile to accept the new foods. Oh he really enjoyed some homemade sweet potato fries tonight, your LO might like those too.
I don't have any advice for you, but I'm here to tell you that you're not alone.
My DS not only refuses most finger foods, but his appetite is really increasing. I can't keep up with making purees, or for that matter, feeding him a giant bowl of puree for a meal. I alternate between the only finger foods he eats- meatballs, and grilled cheese. I get so exasperated and depressed that I barely put any effort into offering anything new anymore. I offer it, show him that I like it, and then I give up. I can't do the song and dance anymore.
I hope someone shows up with some magical advice for us!
DD goes through phases. She'll love something, then hate it, then like it again.
Also don't be afraid to give LO a variety of foods even with no teeth. DD only had her bottom two for a long time and could eat almost anything. Those gums are strong.
Also, could LO be teething? DD seems to shy away from some foods when teething.
He most definitely is teething, he has the one little tooth, and has had 2 more just start to break the surface this week. However, the pickiness has been for a while now, and I feel like he is trying to exert his free will, probably on top of teething. I have offered him a ton of variety despite his gumminess. I am going to keep trying!
That makes me feel better, I hope his Dr. shares the same attitude when we go, his appt. is not until mid August though. My main concern is with him starting daycare in September that I'm not sure what his provider will do to deal with the pickiness, especially since she provides the lunches. I guess she has more expertise with this than I do!
