Anyone else having a meat aversion?

Recently, I have had no interest in eating meat.  DH had a BLT the other day.  I asked for a bite and picked out the bacon, leaving just the L and T.  Then, I ate only the lettuce, onions, tomatoes, and pita from another sandwich (again, picking out the meat).  These craving/aversions are so strange.

Re: Anyone else having a meat aversion?

  • Oh, yes. Meat is the worst. I had a chicken pot pie yesterday and picked out all the chicken.

I don't know if it will get better, but it's my one major turn off right now.

  • Not this pregnancy as much, but with DS, I pretty much became a vegetarian until the 3rd trimester. Once the 3rd trimester hit, all I wanted were McDonald's 1/3lb burgers. Isn't pregnancy just weird?

I tried to make sure I got protein in through other sources, because you need A LOT when you're pregnant. I ate a ton of greek yogurt and plenty of cheese to help.

  • Oh yeah!  Although at this point it does seem to be getting better for me..I have had meat a few times recently. But for the most part, no way!

  • Yes, I had a meat aversion since before I even knew I was pregnant (in fact, the weird aversion is part of the reason I finally took a test). I'm now 12 wks and I still have a hard time eating it. I wonder why?

  • Red meat has really been a problem, but I've been okay with chicken.  Eat lots of beans until you can eat meat again!

  • With DD, I could not eat chicken, at all, it didn't go away.   I again am really grossed out by chicken, it is sometimes ok if prepared by someone else.  Red meat isn't too bad.   I don't want it, but if I take a bite, I can keep going.
  • yes! ugh I hate hamburgers and hot dogs which I loved before..the only type of meat that sounds kind of good is pot roast and turkey...so only some meats I guess but blah!

  • I'm from Los Angeles so ... In & Out is everywhere.

This was my to go to spot during the weekends. Now I can't even stand the smell of it.

Hamburgers and steaks aren't that appealing anymore.

But on the weird side.. I have been craving a sausag mcmuffin from Mickey D's for like two weeks now and haven't had a chance to get one lol

I'm ok with some meat here and there, but the thought of chicken absolutely disgusts me.  I use to eat it all the time and now I can't even look at it.

  • As long as I don't have to cook chicken, I'll eat it...like at a restaurant.

But if you think I'm going to touch raw chicken right now...no thaaaaaaank you!! I'd hurl in 2 seconds flat.

  • Grilled chicken is the absolute worst.  I could not eat at all with #1, and it's starting to look like we're headed this way with #2 also!

  • Oh my gosh yes.  I cannot have any kind of meat anywhere near me.  You may think I am being dramatic but I throw up if a Burger King (or any food commercial that shows meat) comes on T.V.  I was in teacher training today and a coworker came in sat down next to me with a burger.  I wasn't paying attention and all of a sudden I smelled it looked over and had to lunge for the waste basket.  Well now my work knows I am pregnant.

  • Yep! This is me too! I can eat bacon if it is really well done (no fat) but all other meat disgusts me. ESPECIALLY chicken. Blech. I had no idea how common it was!

  • I'm with you. The thought of meat just makes me gag! Every kind of meat. I've been eating Chipotle's lately but I've been skipping the meat and just getting the rice, tomato salsa, sweet corn and guacamole. Can't handle meat at all, in any shape or form. YUCK! Yes, this baby has succeeded in turning me into a vegetarian. Can't even eat eggs anymore. The only animal products I can stand right now are milk, cheese, and plain yogurt. Sad

  • I'm a vegetarian and everybody told me I would want meat when I was pregnant, I cannot stand the thought of eating it right now.  The only thing I want to eat is carbs!  I can eat fruit and salad, but the thought of broccoli is making me sick too.  Good luck

This is my third pregnancy, and the third time that I have a major aversion to chicken.  Not all chicken though.  Just baked or grilled chicken.  I could eat a breaded, fried chicken sandwich or nuggets.  I think it's just the texture.  Something about getting it into my mouth and chewing, and then gagging.  Ugh.

I'm definitely not in love with other meats right now either, but I can eat them.  I'm having a hard time packing a lunch for work.  Most things that I used to have for lunch (leftovers, frozen entrees, etc.) are kind of grossing me out.  Pizza is one thing that I can regularly stomach, and I'm bringing PB&J sandwiches as well.

  • I can eat cooked meat. I can't handle it raw, like when I am aboout to cook it, handle the raw smell of cooking meat and reheating in the microwave of most meats.

  • Same here!  When I was pregnant with ds I couldn't stomach any chicken...but with this pregnancy chicken is the only meat I can eat...and the thought of chopped meat or any other meats just makes my stomach turn.  I'm actually craving red beans all the time though so I guess my body is begging for protien.

  • I NEVER ate red meat before and stuck to chicken and turkey only.  Now, chicken is the worst thing I could possibly eat, but don't really have an issue with ground beef right now.  That could change tomorrow though.  One day I was craving meatballs and then next day they were so gross!

I can't wait to eat normal again!
