High-Risk Pregnancy

Fibroids

hello to all i am eleven weeks pregnant with my  fifth child. i recently had a loss back in nov....preterm loss. i am now pregnant again and was  told that i have two fibroids. i was just wondering is there anyone out there that has them as well or has had them with previous pregnancy.

Re: Fibroids

  • I have a single large fibroid. I've posted here before, and you can read my story if you're interested. I saw several specialists before TTC since I knew about the fibroid. Ultimately we decided not to intervene/have a myomectomy prior to TTC.

Please know that many, many women go through pregnancy and delivery with absolutely no issues with fibroids. Size and location has a lot to do with the potential risks. Also, you do not want the placenta to attach over the fibroid, as it has in my case.

I know that many docs want to do serial ultra sounds to track growth of the baby since IUGR can be a risk. I will be having them every month throughout pregnancy.

My advice is to make a list of questions to ask your physician. I'm not sure how far along you are, but I would def want to know ASAP about the placenta. I would also ask about location of the fibroids and where they are in the uterine lining i.e. subserosal, intramural, submucosal?

  • I understand your concerns- I was where you are last summer.  I had one 6cm and 1 that was about 2 cm at the start of my pregnancy- I grew about 4 more during the pregnancy and the 2 I have each grew about a cm- PP are correct in that placement is everything- I did very well- my pregnancy was pretty uneventful. I was 40 when I delivered so they considered me high risk due to age and the broids as I call them- just meant extra monitoring.

My water did break about 3 weeks early and my daughter was a c-section delivery- because she was breech- nothing to do with the broids- I worried about them but they were pretty much a non event.  Just drink plenty of water as dehydration can irritate them and go to all monitoring appointments.  As we are not sure if we are done, my doctor has recommended leaving them alone as we now know that I can have a great pregnancy with them.  Good luck and try not to worry!
