Maternity or Regular Swimsuit

I'll be about 16 weeks pregnant when I go to Oahu in October.  This is my first pregnancy.  I'm a little confused about the swimsuit situation.  Do you have to buy a maternity swimsuit?  Has anyone out there with a 2 piece been able to wear a regular sized one?  Does anyone know of a maternity swimsuit with a skirt-type bottom?  Thanks!

Re: Maternity or Regular Swimsuit

  • I bought a tankini from Target in a size bigger than I normally wear, and that is what I have been wearing all summer.  There is still some room to grow, so I am thinking I'll be good with that.

Honestly, at 16 weeks I really wasn't showing all that much (This is my first baby too).  I didn't really start to show until closer to 20 weeks.  But everyone is different.  At 16 weeks I honestly just felt "chubby" (that was my awkward, in between stage), so I don't know if you will be comfortable in your regular bikini, but that is really up to you.

  • At 16 weeks I doubt you'll be big enough to wear a maternity suit. If your boobs haven't grown too much you can probably wear your regular suit with no problems. Otherwise I'd wait until August/Sept and pick up whatever fits at Target or something.

  • I'm almost 20 weeks and leaving for Maui on Friday.  I'm planning to wear my old two pieces that fit fine aside for filling out the cups a little more on top!  I'd wait untl the week or two before you leave to decide what's going to be comfortable for you.

  • I was 17 weeks at the beach in June, and I did have a couple of maternity suits.  I showed pretty quickly, though, and I knew buying them would be a good investment since I'd be visibly pregnant all summer.  If you're going in October, you might just be able to get away with a normal one depending on what you're comfortable with.  I got a skirted one at Old Navy.

  • At 16 weeks you shouldn't need a maternity swimsuit. If you really want one though, I would go to Target. They have a pretty decent selection for a good price.

  • I say wear whatever you're comfortable in.  Who cares what other people think.  Enjoy your trip!!

  • Even at 30 wks, I've been able to rock my non-maternity tankinis and bikinis (as long as they are full coverage for the boobs). I'm sure you'l be fine.

As for the skirt bottoms, maybe check the JCrew sale section online.

  • I'm still wearing my regular suit at 28 weeks.  I did have to retire one that my boobs were busting out of, but otherwise, I've been fine with the regular suit.

  • I'm 20 weeks and still wear my reg 2 piece. I think you should be ok to wear one at 16 weeks
  • At 16 weeks I was able to fit into a regular 2 piece suit. Even at 20 weeks I can still fit in it mainly because it's not covering my stomache. If I had a 1 piece or a tankini it would probably be a little snug around my belly at this point and I don't konw how comfortable it would be.
  • I was wearing my regular suit up til now (21 weeks). I got a maternity tankini (they're easier to go to the bathroom in than a one-piece) with shorts bottoms that are really cute!

  • Im almost 18 weeks and go to the pool and beach almost everyday I still wear a normal 2 peice. I went to jcpenny when I was about 13 weeks and just got a large top and large bottom hoping they would last all summer and so far they have. My bottoms are still alittle big :) I think a normal one just bigger then your normal size would work. Mine was only 10 for the top and 10 for the bottoms. Nothing fancy but cute and fits.
  • Wearing a bikini is fun! I went to the beach and wore a bikini the whole time. There was a woman there that was 7 months pregnant in a bikini - she looked great!

Write baby on your belly with sunscreen and get a nice tan!

  • I just bought a one-piece from Target in an XL (although it is still a bit tight even right now)... I figure summer is almost over and I don't make it to the beach too much, so I wanted something I could wear after the baby is here as well! I saw tons of skirted one-pieces at Macy's as well
