Fetal doplers... Are they totally worth it? I'm really debating on giving in and buying one. Does anyone like one better then the other. If I do get one in sure ill get it off of fetaldopler.net, but I'll keep looking ! Thanks ladies
I dont think so; we never got one. You are probably only a couple weeks away from being able to feel the baby kick on a regular basis which IMO eliminates the need for one. Im not sure how much they cost, but IMO for a few weeks, I'd just wait.
My answer would be different for the situations where you are having a high risk pg or have a history of loss. But under normal circumstances with anywhere from a week to a month until you feel regular kicks? IMO not worth it.
Mine helps me relax when I'm feeling particularly anxious. I don't know what the baby feels like at the point as I'm a first time mom soooo to me it's worth it.

I agree. At this point I don't think it's worth it for only a few weeks...
I was high risk with my first & I'm high risk now. Since I'm high risk I get many u/s & I hear the HB every 4 weeks at the OBs office... I don't need to spend the money.

I never had one with my first two pregnancies, but due to the fact that my husband is only able to come to the u/s apts and stuff due to working schedule, i thought id check em out so he could hear the hb too. So I ordered the Baby Sound B through Fetaldoppler.net and it was $35 and free shipping. For the money, you cant go wrong! it plugs into the computer so you can record and save/email the heartbeat to family and friends or save it to a pregnancy journal! I was able to pick up the hb around 10weeks, and now that im 17weeks, im able to pick up movements, rolls, kicks, and the hb comes in really fast and strong now. Plus it tells you fast it is on the digital display. For the money, i think it works great and totally worth it. The ones that are $125 and more...no way, i couldnt see justifying that kind of money when you can get the $35 one that works just great! but of course, this is just my experience and my opinion.
It was TOTALLY worth it for me, but I got it at around 10 weeks, before I had even heard the HB at the doctor's office. It is a different choice for you now that you are farther along. Is $60 a big deal for something you will be using for a few weeks? Will you be able to use it with future pregnancies? I absolutely love getting to listen to our baby's heartbeat in the comfort of my house. I used it the other day when I woke up from a nightmare about the baby. It has been very omfoting for me, but it depends on whether or not the cost vs. amount of use is worth it for your family
Unless you have a high risk pregnancy I think they're pretty much a waste; I didn't get one with DS and sure won't be getting one now; besides, in a couple of weeks you'll start feeling the baby all the time. so no need for a doppler
This weekend we went on vacation and I noticed blood on some toilet paper (I think it was just a cut around the opening from trimming too close (sorry if its TMI)). My husband and I got pretty worried anyway and we had our doppler with us. We heard the baby's heart beat loud and strong. So yes, it is totally worth it. We had a miscarriage before this pregnancy, so the relief the doppler gives us is so nice. I'd recommend it. We got ours off of fetaldoppler.net and got the sonoline B.

This is exactly why I got one this time too and DD loves to hear "baby heartbeat" too. I got the Sonoline B from fetaldoppler.net for $55. It came in 2 days!
I purchased ours for our pregnancy with DS... I lilke, I use it every so often when I want to make sure everything is okay or when I just want to take a listen to that beautiful sound.

a dream that would come true,

I just bought one for this pregnancy after having a late term loss the last time. It helps me calm down if I am ever feeling anxious so for this reason, I think it is worth it.

I'm considering getting one, too. I have a history of loss and experienced 3 1/2 years of infertility, too, and knowing how long it took us to get this far adds to the anxiety...
I'm going to talk to my doctor at my appointment tomorrow and ask if she'd be willing to let me come in every 2 weeks for a HB check until I'm feeling the baby regularly. She's been great so far and done everything to put my heart at ease but the 4 weeks between appointments are extremely difficult for me. If she's not willing to let me come in, then I'll most likely look into getting a doppler...

If I hadn't rented one I never would have known how truly unnecessary this thing is. It took 5 years to get to a successful pregnancy with 2 losses in between and I do have a high(er) risk pregnancy so I thought it made sense. This is what my experience:
1) Before 13 weeks it was tough to find the baby, and lots of nights I went to sleep knowing everything was fine but anxious nonetheless because LO was behind my pubic bone. I'd fill my bladder to the brim and try really hard with the best doppler you can rent but LO was really low.
2) Since 8 weeks I have had lots of ultrasounds (8, 10, 13, and 15 weeks). Due to my history and risks my OB/perinatalogist are very attentive, and they give me WAY more re-assurance than the heartbeat does. Growth is good, there's lots of fluid and she or he is very active: these signs are WAY more significant than a HB.
3) I've read cautionary tales about women getting a false sense of security from their Doppler, most of these I came across when I couldn't find the HB earlier in my pregnancy. If you feel like something is wrong due to unusual cramping or discharge, only your doctor should be putting your mind at ease--even if there were something irregular in the HB you maynot detect it.
In conclusion, I am sending my rental back soon and I won't miss it. If you think one might be it worth for you I recommend renting first.
I just bought one because I'm a nervous nelly. I felt so sick and fatigued during my first trimester and when my symptoms went away in the beginning of the second I started to freak out. All of the ladies I work with made fun of me when I said I had one but I am glad I do. It gives me peace of mind.
