Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Quick and easy for busy self-feeders?

My LO wants to be on the go so bad, she doesn't like to really sit still and wait for lunch to come around, she wants it WHEN SHE WANTS IT, and it is usually the busiest time of our day, either gearing up for house work or needing to go to the post office...What are your favorite easy and healthy lunches...and of course we have to be able to self feed. We are big girl babies now, and are not patient enough for mommy or daddy to help us! (11 month old)

  • My LO is the same way! I give DS a snack to eat while i'm preparing his food. Like a wagon wheel. I give sweet potato sticks/ cooked carrot sticks.  I'm looking forward to getting responses tot his as well. I love your LO's name by the way :)

Thank you! I like yours as well...and LO's bday. :)

  • I always bring those puree pouches with me in case DS gets hungry. He loves almost all of them!  We also do cheese and fruit a lot.
  • I agree with PP - leftovers!  Whatever we have in the house just gets cut up into DD-sized pieces.  Easy peasy!  And snacks while you're making lunch is also key.  DD gets a little handful of puffs or cheerios or something like that while I get her dinner every night.

I also cook big batches of veggies and then freeze them in convenient portions - sweet potato sticks, carrot sticks, zucchini chunks, etc.  I also usually have a bag of frozen sugar snap peas on hand so I can just grab a few and throw them in the microwave.

I usually have some frozen mac & cheese on hand too.  I make it with pastina, some kind of pureed veggie (usually squash, sweet potato or pumpkin because they're orange and look like real mac and cheese), parm cheese, and some cut up turkey meatballs.  I make big batches of that, too, and just freeze it in ice cube trays so I can just grab a couple of cubes to microwave for DD's lunch.  Sometimes I also cut up some veggie chunks to mix in too.

  • I keep a bag of chopped frozen veggies around for DD. The kind I get comes pre-chopped (I think it's really for soups) and has lima beans, carrots, corn, peas, and green beans.

It only takes 5 minutes or so to defrost and gives DD a good variety of veggies.

  • I feed her when she gets up from a nap. When I hear her wake up, I warm her bottle(I EP) and get everything ready before even getting her up. I get her up and put her right in her high chair and give her a sippy with BM, while I am chopping/getting ready her chunked food. I have found the easiest veggies are the frozen chopped veggies(green beans, carrots, peas, corn) and I just throw 1-2 servings in water and microwave. What she doesn't eat, gets eaten that same day typically. For breakfast she usually eats chopped berries/grapes and Cheerios. She is a go-go girl too but loves food as much as she likes to crawl around :)
