Cribs at Daycare

Anyone else's daycare have the cribs in the wall? Our daycare is pretty small there are only 4 babies in the infant room so space is kind of limited. The cribs are made into the wall and they have a door/rails that slides up to open and then latches. It doesn't bother me or DH but my MIL always makes comments about it being a cage. To me it's the same thing as his crib at home it is designed to keep him contained and safe while he is sleeping. They don't keep him in there when he is awake.

Re: Cribs at Daycare

  • Ours doesn't have that style, but I am curious as to what their fire exit plan is. At our daycare they pile the kids in one of the cribs and roll them out.

  • We looked at a DC that had them and DH couldn't really get past it.  He called it the "baby kennel."  I didn't think they were a big deal at first, but I can't imagine him  being in one now because he's so big.  I would feel too confined with something over my head like that.  Of course, he's just a baby and probably wouldn't care, but I wasn't a fan of them.

I also wonder what their fire exit plan.

  • I am embarrassed to admit that with everything we asked we didn't ask what their fire exit plan is. I just looked and it is not in the parent handbook either. I would assume since there are only 4 babies maybe a helper from a room with older kids would come and they would each take 2 babies. There is a door to the outside in each classroom. I will def have to ask tomorrow when I pick LO up. We looked at a few different daycare but ours was our number one pick since we have know multiple people whose kids go there. The cribs def weren't a deal breaker for us. The cribs are the size of a mini crib so E still has plenty of room to stretch out. He naps really well so I guess he doesn't mind.

  • One of the daycares that I worked at years ago had these. The parents didn't seem to mind. I didn't think anything of it then (being a teenager) but now I can see how people could be bothered by them.
