It has been a while... Questions?

Hi Ladies,  It has been a while since I have been on the boards.  My son is almost 16 months old born 4/4/11. I can't belive how fast time has gone and how busy life is!!

I am 8 weeks pregnant with baby #2, and still breastfeeding baby #1. The Dr. says I should stop by the end of the first tri.  Has anyone else gone through this... What did you do. Baby #1 still loves to BF, it is going to be so hard to stop all together...

Second, I do not remember when I started to show last time, but I feel like I am already starting to show... I had to leave my pants open at the top today.  When did you start to show if you can remember?

Third, I really do not want to buy another crib.  Baby #1 will be 22.5 months when baby #2 is born.  I think I will keep baby #2 in our room for about 5 months.  At what age do you move a toddler out of the crib into a big boy bed?

Thanks Ladies!

Re: It has been a while... Questions?

  • First off, why is your dr telling you to wean?

I'm 11 weeks pregnant and I notice the belly along with family and close friends but I haven't told work yet and no one has noticed.

Liam will also be about 22 months when this baby is born and I'm hoping to move him to a big boy bed a few months prior - every kid is so different and it's a big transition so we'll keep an open mind about it.

    Best of luck :)

I was thinking about you not to long ago because I grew up in Sarasota.

    Congrats on the pregnancy.

When I got pregnant again my OB said nothing about stopping BF.  We ended up stopping on our own due to other reasons.  Are you considered high risk?

I showed earlier this time as well :/

We have started to put LO in her big girl bed and to our amazement she has done very well.  Shocked us both.  We were just going to try and see how it goes and work on it a month before LO arrives.  Nope she is happy there.  So we wont be buying a new crib.

Thank you!  I remember talking with you when we were both expecting last time. Congrats on baby #2!!  This is a very exciting time!!  No, I am not considered high risk.  So I think I will go with the flow for now... I have way less milk... But baby #1 still loves morning and night feedings and occasional day feedings when we are home together.

Baby #1 still loves to BF, it is going to be so hard to stop all together...  Did not have this situation happen to me, but lots of people breastfeed through their entire pregnancies, so unless there is something in your medical history that is wrong/etc I wouldn't know why you would have to stop before LO is ready

Second, I do not remember when I started to show last time, but I feel like I am already starting to show... I had to leave my pants open at the top today.  When did you start to show if you can remember?  With baby #1 I did not get "stranger comments" until 15 weeks or so.  With baby#1 I got my first stranger comment at 10 weeks.  Stretched out abdominal muscles + lots of bloat + morning sickness that was better with eating all the time = very obvious pregnancy.

Third, I really do not want to buy another crib.  Baby #1 will be 22.5 months when baby #2 is born.  I think I will keep baby #2 in our room for about 5 months.  At what age do you move a toddler out of the crib into a big boy bed?  every child is different.  My 3 year old still loves his crib and asks to go in it, so I have not moved him out yet.  He doesn't climb out, it is like his little hideaway.  Not moving him until he asks or starts climbing out and falling.

Thank you for the great words of advice!  We might have to purchase a 2nd crib. :)

We're planning to start TTC next month.  I'd recently begun hoping that DS would continue to nurse throughout my pregnancy (as we've gone along, my attitudes about weaning have changed a lot!), but he seems to be self-weaning.  I've never heard any reason you should stop during pregnancy.

Since we're hoping the kids will be ~25 months apart, I was thinking of transitioning DS into a toddler bed a few months before I'm due so he doesn't feel like he's being kicked out of the crib for the baby.  The baby will probably be in our room for the first few months, though I'd like to get him/her napping in the crib so we get on a better sleep schedule than we did this time...

  • Congrats on your new pregnancy!  I find that I "show" earlier and earlier with each pregnancy.

You don't need to buy another crib!  You just need to ease into the transition.  It's a little hard at first (they constantly get out of bed!), but eventually they get there.  DS was 23 months when Josie was born and he had been in his big boy bed for a few months already.
