If you all don't know, I'm a Zumba Fitness instructor. I had my class this morning and was slightly nervous about attendance because 4 of my regulars told me that they were going on vacation for the next 2-3 weeks. This Group X room that I teach in on Tuesdays is pretty small...if there are more than 12 people you start to feel crowded. Lately, I've been getting 8+ people in each of my classes (at this location). Today, even with my regulars on vacation, I had 13 people! AWESOME TURN OUT! After the class one of the girls came up to me and said, "I just wanted to let you know that your classes have more people than any other classes I've been to." She later clarified that she meant more than just Zumba classes. Way to put me on cloud 9! That totally made my day!
Re: AW - awesome Zumba Class today! (NBR)
There isn't specifically...I'm still teaching full out Zumba because I never had down time. I've definitely slowed down my intensity, but I still show people in my class how to up it if they want (and bring it down as well). If you are looking for a lower intensity Zumba class go to Zumba.com and look up Zumba Gold classes in your area. The description may make you want to turn away, so don't read it! Basically, what Zumba Gold was designed for is the "active older adult". However, I recommend it for people coming back from injuries and I plan on taking some Zumba Gold classes when I'm cleared to actually work out again before I get back into teaching. I know there is one instructor near me who teaches (or at least used to) Zumba Gold "Mommy and Me" for postnatal and you can baby wear while doing it.
Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions. I'm happy to help!
I love Zumba and I am happy you are still able to teach your classes.
That said, I have no coordination and find myself really embarrassed to attend classes with my friends. We have a class that meets four times a week and easily gets over 30 people per session.
Do you have any at home videos that could help me? I would love to be able to develop the coordination and confidence to attend classes.
Thanks...(in advance)!
There's Zumba for Wii if you don't want to go to classes! I love Zumba, but I usually can't go to our classes here because of time conflict so I just do it at home
Sorry, I would have responded last night, but for some reason my phone doesn't allow me to do more than lurk on the Bump.
So...to get yourself more comfortable...there are several options. First, If you continue to go to classes, you should start to catch on to some of the songs. For the most part, the dances and songs should be the same each week (as long as you are going to the same instructor's class).
Second, there are always the videos (or video games). That's how I started (11 years ago). There is a "steps" video included that shows you the the basic steps for the main dance styles (Salsa, cumbia, merengue, ect...)
Finally, There is youtube. If you search Zumba Basic Steps, a bunch of videos pop up. I haven't checked them out, but I always default to youtube when I want to get a quick run down on how to do something (I'm a visual/hands on learner).
I hope this helps.
