2012 International AIDS Confrence & Decisions

I was listing to the radio this afternoon, and they had a story about how voluntary male circumcision can reduce female to male transmission of HIV by approximately 60%. I know this will probably not matter to those who have already decided not to, but for those who are still considering the facts, it's something I hadn?t realized.

Re: 2012 International AIDS Confrence & Decisions

  • In the last month or so, I've been hearing reports about successful efforts in some of the African countries to circumcise adult males because of this reason.   I have yet I don't recall anything in the last few years about there being any actual research studies done to come up with these statistics correlating male circumcision with a lack of HIV transmission.  (nor have I sought it out) ... merits some research if find out it'll be a DS...

  • It probably won't matter to those who have already decided not to circ b/c it's really not imporant or relevant information to the circumcision question in this country.  The burden of responsibility to teach all the exact same precautions to your child are completely equal whether you circ or not.

  • And teaching your child about safe sex reduces the risk of transmission of HIV....
  • I don't think anyone is advocating circ. instead of condoms, however, as we all know, kids don't always make the choices we would hope.
