suggestions on a splurge for baby?

My boyfriend and I are moving out of our apartment this weekend to live with his parents (bleh) until our house is ready in November. We decided that while we were packing and cleaning the place, we would collect all of the change or random $1 bills we have laying around, cash it in, and buy a fun splurge for the baby. The best part is that not only did we find about $300, but we also have our a/s on Thursday...so we wanted to go get something for him or her after the appointment. His first suggestion was a "badass" stroller, but I had to break it to him that 1. we sure as hell wouldn't get that for $300, and 2. our parents have already offered to buy that for us. I told him that I thought we should get something fun and not something that is a necessity. Any suggestions?

  • You could get a Mamaroo! or a bunch of smaller things.

  • The items I bought with DS that I was happy I splurged on were a stroller and diaper bag. $300 won't buy the stroller but you could get an awesome diaper bag and some smaller things.

  • 300 will buy you a good way down the cloth diaper road if you are doing that, or a crib and mattress (and maybe even bedding) depending on how spendy you want to get. It could also get you a sweet glider or arm chair. You guys could go to target or something like that and just pile the stuff in, grab the car seat and other larger items and it will go quickly!
  • My splurge item with DD was my diaper bag. Another option would be a nice swing or glider?

  • A nice diaper bag, or bedding/nursery decorations that you would have otherwise passed up due to cost!

  • my splurge suggestion is a diaper bag . I really wanted this cute one from kate spade.

  • Lol I love all the suggestions above but I'm still blown away that you found $300 laying around in change and $1.00 bills! I think the most I'd find is a penny lol

Hood job! I'd buy decorations for the nursery. DIY things.

  • I'd wait until after your shower if you are having one. You don't want to have a totally worthless splurge!

How about a nice 529 plan? Not in the spirit of what you were going for, but I guarantee this won't be something you regret later.

Haha, my boyfriend is a notorious change-aholic. To be honest, I am surprised that is all we found...but then again, we still have to go through the bedroom, so we'll see!

  • Love all of the suggestions! I really wish it was just my change, otherwise I would totally be going for the diaper bag! I was hoping to get something we could both get excited over though.
