TTC After a Loss

Separate Waiting Room?

Just got back from getting more b/w done.  Instead of sitting me in the normal waiting room with everyone else, I was told to sit in one of the chairs outside the lab at my dr.'s office.  The lab also happens to be between the 2 bathrooms, so while I was sitting there I got to watch at least 5 preggo girls walk by.  Some with husbands and u/s pictures, some by themselves... but all with big, obvious preggo bellies.

What sense does it make to put someone who recently had a m/c in the most high traffic area of the office, to watch everyone walk by and hear everyone's conversations?  I would love it if there could be a separate area for those of us who have suffered a loss.  Maybe then I could actually make it through the wait without crying.

Thanks for letting me vent!

((hugs)). I'm so sorry you had to go through this. When I was going through my first miscarriage and knew that the pregnancy wasn't viable, I was getting blood drawn a lot. I had to do the same thing you did. Sitting outside in the hallway, feeling like a cast-off, waiting to get my blood drawn while huge pregnant women paraded past me. Good times.

I'm sorry - that's definitely a tough situation.  I almost lost it in the waiting room for our follow up m/c appointment for the same reason.

  • maybe you should call the office when you're feeling a little stronger and tell them this. I agree, it's inappropriate, but maybe nobody has ever brought it to their attention. I think it's a good bit of advice for them.

  • Awww (((HUGS)))

I seriously don't know why they do it either. My only suggestion is next time go there and find the chair that faces a corner (or faces as few things as possible) and bring a book or play with your phone and don't look up until you hear your name called..

I hate that we have to live like that but it's the only thing that's helped me :(

  • I agree with you 100%! I had to go through the same thing at my dr. office and it was torture! I just wanted to break down and cry the whole time I was sitting there. Having a separate waiting room would be so helpful for those who suffered a loss. BIG ((HUGS)) sorry you had to go through that!

  • That's the worst...I had a similar experience yestday waiting to get an ultra sound for what turned out to be an ovarian cyst.  I was sat right next to an enormously PG woman and her DH while we both waited.  We were next to each other for about 15 minutes...they were so excited for their ultra sound, it was all they could talk about.  I on the other hand couldn't stop thinking about my last ultra sound which showed a 12 week old baby w/out a heartbeat.  You may want to consider mentioning it to your Dr when you are feeling a bit calmer, you would think they would consider things like that, but it seems they rarely do!  (((HUGS)).

  • I totally know what you mean. I had my D&C follow-up yesterday and was dreading having to sit in the waiting room and see pg women and/or babies. Luckily my appointment was first thing in the AM and there was no one else around. Literally it was just me and the nurses. I don't know if they did it that way on purpose or not, but I was SO thankful for it. Maybe ask them for a really early appointment next time? I also agree about telling them how you felt.

  • I'm sorry you had to go through that.

My thought is they were trying to be sensitive, but then didn't think about the bathroom factor.  Unffortunately, no matter what you do though, in an OBGYN's office you will see pg women.  Unless, like the PP said, they bring in on off-hours.

  • Been there and done that, and it is hard.  ((hugs))  I don't know that there is much of a solution, except that it does get easier with time, or, it did for me.  I am sorry you had to deal with that today, though.
