What do you do for diaper rash?

DS has his first bad diaper rash. He's been pooping a lot and I feel bad because I know it hurts when I wipe him. I've been treating it with A&D and giving him some nakey time but do you have any other remedies that help clear it up quickly? I hate seeing his tears of pain when I change him. :(  I'd rather he be kicking me in the boobs because he doesn't want to give up a minute of play time to get changed like he usually does.

  • Baking Soda bath and A&D ointment.

  • DS has recently had a series of bad rashes and so far the best thing for them has been Aquafor, I think. When they're bad, I'll do a layer of that followed by another layer of a regular rash cream.
  • I like the purple desitin.  There is also this stuff called pinxav you have to order online but it's pretty good.

  • We can't use desitin on P because that gives her a horrible chemical burn.  Sad  We use A&D, and if it's really bad then we also use some calendula - lotion, creme, or ointment.
  • We give lots of naked time, even when he's asleep.

Instead of using wipes when he poops I put him in the tub and run luke warm water and put his butt in stream.  I gently use my hand to rub him down if he has any clingers.

If the rash is bad as in there are open sores, then I end up using Rx Fucidin cream that his pediatrician said to use when it gets to that point.

If it isn't that bad, then I make a paste with baking soda and water and apply it to his sore area and then put a pair of underwear over top of that.

  • Maximum strength butt paste in the red tube worked best for us, as well as ditching wipes for water and wash cloths (or really soft paper towels).  Hope your LO is better soon!

We rinse our sensitive wipes in water before use every time to prevent diaper rash. So, in essence, you are just wiping with a chemical free soft wipe.  After diaper change, wipe with the rinsed out wipes and then dry the area.  Once it is COMPLETELY dry, apply aquaphor.  Haven't had any rashes.  Key is to dry the area completely before you put a clean diaper on.
  • My son's diaper rash never seemed to clear up even with prescription creams.  I read somewhere to use Bag Balm they use it for cow's utters in winter to help with chapping.  They sell it by the lotions at Walgreens.  It has been amazing how well it cleared up his diaper rash.  We use it at bedtime and couple times throughout the day just to prevent diaper rash.  Good Luck!

We use CJ butter spray with neen oil if it's a bad rash and lots of naked time. Otherwise, we use the regular CJ Butter ointments or coconut oil and just put a thick layer on and cover with a diaper if the rash isn't too bad or just as a preventative measure.
