Today I went in for an u/s. The Dr. could not get a clear picture of a fetus and after about 5 minutes of trying could not get a heart beat. We were told about the possibility of a miscarriage, and sent to a women's imaging specialist.
We went to the specialist half and hr after the first appt and they quickly found a clear picture of the fetus, measuring at 7 weeks 4 days. They did not find a heartbeat, and we were told of our 3 options: wait to miscarry on your own, take medicine to promote miscarriage, and a D&C.
My lmp was 5/23, but I have longer cycles, mainly around 35 days. they thought I would be 8 weeks 6 days, but that is based on a 28 day cycle. I am not sure when I ovulated, but I thought I would be anywhere between 8 weeks 1 day, and 7 weeks 5 days. So it seems like the growth is right on schedule, which is what is confusing me. Unless it stopped growing yesterday and we just caught it early...?
I haven't had any cramping/bleeding etc. Do you think it might just be too early to see a hb, or do you think I should just mentally prepare for the miscarriage, like the Dr. suggested?
((sorry so long of a post, I am just confused))
Re: No hb on u/s... need advice/help
I am so sorry you couldn't get better answers from your doctors. How are you feeling? Have you had any morning sickness or other pregnancy symptoms? Maybe there's a chance your baby was just turned around and they could register the heartbeat? You shouldn't have to sit around and wait for your body to miscarry. They should be doing blood work to check your levels. Your blood will tell them how pregnant you are.
Please keep us posted how you are doing the rest of this week - I'll be thinking of you every day until you know exactly what happens. ((HUGS))
Thanks. I know that's what I need to do, but of course after googling I find all of this information about not seeing heartbeat, but seeing it a week later, etc. It's giving me false hope I think.

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I agree with PP though that by 7 weeks you should definitely be able to see a HB.
There is no easy answer, and you are certainly within your rights to seek a third opinion before you make any decision. The only thing with D&Cs that is not necessarily true with medication induced MCs is that having a D&C can place you at a slightly higher risk for future ectopic pregnancies.
Many, many hugs to you.
ETA: I would request bloodwork to see what your beta levels are doing

I'm so sorry you're going through this. There's no harm in waiting to see what happens; don't rush into a D&C or medicine if you don't feel ready or confident. However, like PP mentioned, I'm afraid you should have seen a HB by now.
I had a mm/c with my last pregnancy and I opted for a D&C because my baby stopped growing at 6w3d and I didn't find out until 11w1d. My D&C was at 11w4d, and I never had any sign that anything was wrong. No cramping/bleeding, still had all my symptoms in tact (and increasing, actually). If you do find out that your LO has indeed stopped growing, I suggest the medicine or the D&C. It would be awful to "wait it out" and have to wait as long as I did (or longer).
Again, I'm so sorry. Praying for a miracle for you.

I completely agree and have waited out all of my m/c although I can understand why some opt for a D&C. What do your betas look like?
I'm so sorry you're going through this. Big Huge Hugs.
I would agree that perhaps another u/s in a week will be conclusive and that if you're feeling uncomfortable and want to wait for the results, you should do that.
I have been through both a "natural" miscarriage and a medically induced one. Both were hard in different ways. A D&C is the quickest easiest route. I have never had that done. With a D&C it's possible to have your clinic test the tissue to find out what was wrong, chromosomally with the baby.
Feel free to post on Miscarriage/PG Loss for some advice regarding which method is right for you, if it comes down to that.

Thank you everyone for your kind words.
I am not sure about my betas, but I think I will call tomorrow and find out what my levels were like, and then decide from there what to do. I had blood work done friday of last week, and maybe I should have some more blood work done just to see what the results are..

I went through this same thing at 8 weeks and 6 days. We went in for our second ultrasound and the baby measured really small and they were no longer able to find a heartbeat. They told us that our baby had probably died 2 weeks earlier, around Christmas day. I was so upset and in total denial. I went to a second doctor the next day and she confirmed that there was no heartbeat. She told us that we should have been able to pick up a heartbeat around the 6 week mark. I went straight into a D&C after being told all the complications that can happen with natural miscarriage. I was also told that it could take up to a month for it to happen on it's own.
I wish I had waited at least another week before doing it though. Just to make sure that our timing was not off and that our baby was not just slow to grow. You need to do what your heart tells you. I agree with the other posts though. You should be going in for more blood work to check to see if your levels are rising or dropping. What ever happens I will be praying for you and your husband. I hope things work out for you, I don't wish anyone going through what I did.
