Thoughts on this, ladies...

I am 7 weeks pregnant with a 22 month old daughter.  I have been back at work since my daughter was 3 months old.  I have been waiting for a promotion since October, just a matter of waiting for the right thing to open up.  I was told today to prepare for a second interview...

 Do I tell them I'm pregnant? I haven't even told my family yet! My husband says no, that me being pregnant hasn't affected my work in the past and it won't going forward.  I just feel like I'm being secretive.  Thoughts?

    I would not say. You DH is right. It should have nothing to do with it.

    No.  Your pregnancy has nothing to do with your promotion.  Keep your lips sealed until at least 12 months, or later if you're not showing at that point.

    Yep, lips sealed.  Don't feel guilty: This is the world we live in . . . we have reproductive freedom which is statutorily enforced in the work place.  Your gender has nothing to do with your job, therefore, your uterus shouldn't either.

    Definitely don't! Discrimination against pregnant women is illegal, but they can find "valid" reasons to choose someone else, though their decision could be heavily influenced by your announcement, just not "officially". If you can do the job and won't leave them in a lurch, then don't tell them, get the promotion you deserve, and tell them when they need to know (much later)

    I agree with everyone- it is none of their business and nobody can hold it against you for waiting when you finally do tell them.

    I agree that it is your business, and no one else's.  If they ask why you didn't say anything sooner, just tell them it was the first tri rule.  I know it can feel unethical, but you're not doing anything wrong.  The fact is that getting a promotion helps your family in the end, right? Family first. :)  Good luck!

    No, your pregnancy has nothing to do with your skill sets, your work ethic, and your ability to do the job. I would wait.

    DON'T say anything! the fact of the matter is, even if it's illegal, it will be held against you.

    My last boss flat out said to us after we interviewed a pregnant woman that he didn't want to deal with the hassle of maternity leave and mom's "have to take too much time off from work when kids get sick, .."  They cannot legally ask you if you're pregnant or have kids, but so many women voluntary offer it up during interviews and it is held against them.

    None of us there have children, and after that, I knew that was not a coincidence.

    Amen to this!!  Sadly even though it shouldn't affect your promotion, it very well could...so keep those lips sealed...  GL!!

    I would say no, I wouldn't want it to unintentionally hinder your shot at the promotion. Your pregnancy does not impact you work nor prohibit you from doing anything.

    If she's pregnant for 12 or more months, she has more to worry about than a promotion... just sayin'... Stick out tongue

    And I agree with everyone, your pregnancy is none of their business. I hope you get your promotion, and maybe you'll get an even better maternity leave. Good luck!
