swing, bouncy, or wait?

I'm trying to get my registry together and don't know if I should register for a swing, a bouncy chair, both, or wait until the baby is here and see if I have any idea which would be best then. Thoughts?

I did both for DS1. Once he arrived he hated the bouncy seat and loved the swing. At a month old we put the seat away and never used it again. He lived in his swing for the first 6 months lol

  • Mine loved his bouncy chair. I loved that it was small and portable, so I could put him in it and have him safely in the bathroom with me, while I got a shower. I like that the bouncey chairs are more "interactive" than swings. You never know what the kid is going to like though.

  • I have both.. One, my work got me and the other one I bought used from a family. We will just see what works! I would register for both.

  • We have both. DD loved the bouncy & it was more portable than the swing. She was only in the swing a few times she didn't seem to thrilled with it. We'll try both again with thsi one.

  • I agree with PP.  I'm registering for both.  Even if this one doesn't like one or the other, hopefully I'll be able to use it on future kids.

  • I registered for a swing that can also be a vibrating seat. I figure it will save space and money.

  • I put both on my registry for my first. DD liked the bouncy seat for about a week and the swing for maybe 3 weeks. You never know what your kid will like, but if you have more than one child there is hope the other will use them more and you can always resell them on Craigslist.

  • I'm going to put both on my registry.

  • I had both for DD. I kept the swing upstairs and the bouncy chair downstairs. saved me the trouble of bringing them up and down the strais depending on where I was and needed it.

But the swing I had was more upright and wasn't suggested to be used until DD could keep her head up more. So i didn't use it for a while. I'm buying a swing this time around that I can use right away.

  • I registered for this one. It is a 2 in 1.  You can use it as either a swing or a seat- this one also plugs in if you are not crazy about changing batteries.

This was us.  Both my boys loved the bouncy chair and hated the swing.  I got both with DS1, though.  If it's a budget issue, I'd go with the bouncy chair.  Not only is it cheaper, but it's more portable and you can get a whole lot of use out of it.

  • Both. You never know which one lo will like (and even then they may change their mind and prefer the other at times!) Best to have both on hand to help your sanity.

Side note - totally recommend a swing that plugs into the wall. If your lo becomes swing obsessed like mine was you will be running through batteries like crazzzzy.

With DS I really didn't want a bouncy seat.  I thought it was dumb and a waste of money. We bought a swing, but someone gave us a bouncer at the shower. I'm so glad!!! DS loved being outside and I would put him in the bouncer on the porch with me while I read a book.  Sometimes just going outside would make him stop screaming, so that bouncer on our porch was a life saver.

  • We went for this, too!  Made the most sense since you never know what they'll like -- plus it ended up being cheaper than buying both separately!
