EATING her crib

So we put DD down for a nap this morning and there is a clothes basket of outgrown clothes next to the crib. She figured out how to pull the clothes through the crib and was playing with them. I figured she wasn't doing any harm and couldn't hurt herself and would eventually fall asleep. We kept checking on her every now and then and she was fine. Well, she never went to sleep so I went to go get her and she had bit the crib so much that it was down to the paint and one part some of the wood was starting to spike up. I have no idea how she did that. What the heck do you do about this? I have heard of babies leaving teeth marks and such on cribs, but not straight up eating chunks of it!!

Re: EATING her crib

  • DD1 wore grooves in the crib rails when she was teething. I never covered them with her, but now that DD2 is starting to chew the crib the parts DD1 left behind are splintering a little, so I'm going to make a cover with fleece. Like this:

If you're not feeling crafty, you can buy them on Amazon or at BRU, but they can be pretty pricey.

Great idea! Thanks so much. I actually sew and make most of DD's clothes so I'm pretty sure I can handle this!

I just made that with my DH.  But we never put it up because he was worried about the fuzzies coming off and  DS eating it.  I told him eating a few fuzzies of fleece is better than the paint from the crib.  What do you think?

I think DD2 eats more fuzzies from chewing on baby toys/stuffed animals/blankets and picking them off the floor than she would on the fleece :) And I really don't think the fleece will have a lot of fuzzies anyway. I have several fleece blankets made with that tying technique that have held up really well.

  • Thanks!  That's what I told him and he kept pulling at the fleece making more fuzzies come off!  I thought he was being a little crazy!

  • A few days ago I would have advice - we bought the plastic pieces to put over the crib rails and they worked fine.  ...until earlier this week when DD figured out how to take them off.  Now she plays with the plastic pieces (which aren't a choking hazard) and still chews the crib.  I'm searching for another solution now, so I'll be interested in seeing the replies.
