Someone told me yesterday that 3D Ultrasounds are really loud to the baby. Something akin to a train underwater and that's why in many of the pics you see they have their arms by their head. Anyone know if this is true? I just found it interesting. My husband wants to get them done but I really have no interest.

3d ultrasounds give me the heebs. Especially this early. With my son we went for a growth ultrasound at 37 weeks, and she flipped on the 3d without asking. Thank goodness we were not team green. There was no mistaking the little boy in there.
Yeah - a quick google search confirms that apparently this is true. Apparently at some point someone put a hydrophone in a woman's uterus and recorded the 3D ultrasound at over 100 decibels (or approximately the sound of a subway train).
I'm not sure why these things are so popular when both the American Institute of Ultrasound Medicine and the FDA have outright said that elective 3D ultrasounds should clearly not be used.
Whatever. I certainly won't be having one . . .
Agree.
Don't know. But I didn't do it with my first & won't with this one. I'm going to be honest - I have seen them (my cousin did one with her first & had a video to boot) and it just looks creepy to me.
Wow, that's crazy!
And also:
to your second statement.

I wasn't neccessarily aiming mine at you either but just clearing the air in general.
Thanks for sharing this info... There is no way I will be having one now. The day before I gave birth to DS they did a 3D ultrasound because they thought he was going to be a big baby and want to double check size and weight. I remember his hand being close to his face too. Poor thing
All ultrasounds are loud, they use sound waves to create the images.
I don't think it damages a child. I did it with my first, it was fun and he is fine. I might not do it with this one because of the cost but I'm not sure yet.

The baby didn't have it's hands by it's head the whole time and if you read the study they posted it said that it doesn't do any harm to the baby and the baby can't really hear it. The noise wasn't specific to the 3d u/s either, both are loud but at a level that humans can't hear.
totally agree!!! they are the ultimate creepy pictures...espically the really early on 3d ones
I saw your pictures in the other thread.... I want to clarify that my comment on this thread was not directed any anyone. I see the 3d images on FB all the time.... so it wasnt at you at all!
I wasn't posting this about you! Your post just reminded me of what the girl had said and I was wondering if anyone else had heard the same thing.
I never heard this before. At my n/t scan, the tech just flipped a switch and showed us without asking and I didnt think anything of it but this is very interesting to know. Thanks for the info.
