where are you putting your hospital bag?

I haven't even started packing mine yet (have to wait till after we visit my parents this weekend), but I can't figure out where I should put it once it is packed (in my car, DH's car, just leave it at the house?).....if I go into labor at work I will be going straight to the hospital from there (hospital is 40 mins from our house, less than 10 from work), but if I go in at home we won't even take my car.....what is everyone else doing or planning on doing?

Re: where are you putting your hospital bag?

  • I'll be placing mine in DH's car..which will be the family car, which will be mine after the baby comes. It makes sense since the car seat will be in there. I'll be packing a bag next week sometime.

We kept mine in my SUV with DS and will probably do the same with this one.  You can always grab it from your car and put it in your husbands if you go into labor at home since both cars will be there anyway.  Basically, keep it near you.

But it's not the end of the world if you go in without your bags - someone can always bring it up to you.

  • In his room.  There are some things I probably won't pack until early labor (makeup, etc) even though the rest is packed.  If something emergency wise happens and I can't stop home, then someone can bring it to me.  It isn't normal for labor to start and need to be at the hospital immediately.

  • My husband's car looks like a war zone.  There will be no baby in there, much less a bag of hospital related items.  He rewired the windows because they were broken and has never put his inside panel door back on--I believe that was almost 18 months ago.

Everything will be going in my car.

  • My car. It's the one with the car seat. There are a few things that we won't pack up until go-time, like my make-up bag and a small cooler with snacks/drinks, but I'll probably have everything else packed and loaded within the next couple of weeks.

I will probably have my bag in my car since that's the family car and the one we plan to bring the LO home in. Though, I may consider just leaving the bag at home since I work nearby and the house is between my work and the birthing center.

  • Probably in the baby's room. If I go into labor at work, someone will have to grab it for me.

  • I'm keeping it my bedroom. I have to bring some last minute things like toiletries, my glasses, etc. that I use every day. I can't keep them in my car. But we live 15 minutes from the hospital. If DH or a relative needs to go back to the house and grab it, it's no big deal.

  • I think we'll keep it in our room out of the way. I'll pack everything I can before hand and then pack the stuff I use after it's time to go! I plan on putting together a list of items I'll need to pack so won't forget anything. The hospital is 5 minutes from our house and about 5 from work as well. Either way I'd go home first then head to the hospital.

  • In my closet--like PP I'll have last minute things to throw in. I'll probably make a list of those things, too, in case I go in unexpectedly and need someone else to grab them for me.

  • Our Durango, DH has a work van so we don't technically have his and her vehicles.  We have a car too, but it was decided by me that I would much rather be in an SUV than a car when I go into labor, easier to get out of.  The last minute stuff: make-up, tooth-brush, etc, will be tossed into my purse.

This is what I did last time and I'm going to do the same this time.  ITA with what you said about someone bringing it for you or having time to get it.  With how hot it's been here, I can't imagine my stuff sitting in the car for what could be a couple of weeks.
