Baby Monitor

I'm a FTM, so I have no idea which baby monitor I should register for.  There were so many to choose from- just looking for some recommendations!  Thanks!!

The only issues we've ever had were with the battery life, so we just leave it on the charger all the time.  DD is a little over 3 and it still works great.    I'd defintely recommend it.

We have this one now for DS and love it, never have had an issue with it at all. Plan on using it for the little one too.

  • My DH did all the research but based on what we were looking for this was what we are going with:

    https://www.amazon.com/Philips-AVENT-Monitor-Temperature-Sensor/dp/B003YC0W8G/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1343142912&sr=8-2&keywords=phillips+advent+baby+monitor

It has a talk back feature, room temperature gauge, it also has the one of the longest tested ranges in baby monitors, and does not interfere with wifi and other wireless devices (my husbands main priority), or get interference from microwaves the way some monitors can. Good luck I found the whole process of finding the right one overwhelming, which is how DH got the job.

We have an ~900sq ft apartment, so we're just getting a $20 Target special.  Alice will be in our room for the first few months (at the very least) anyway, and during the day, she'll be in the front living area of the house with me.  We will keep a P&P in there so we can hang out together.  Basically, we'll use it for when I do need to spend time in the bedroom putting away clothes or something, and she's still in the front area asleep.

  • We used a hand me down Angel Care sound and movement monitor with DD and it was fine for what we needed but there was a lot of interference that came through depending on where the monitor was placed so we had to mess w/it's placement a good bit, also, it ran on double A batteries that it really just ate through when it was not plugged up.

We recently purchased the Motorolla Digital Video monitor (2.8 inch LCD) from Bed Bath & Beyond w/a 20% off (because it is pretty pricey) coupon and couldn't be happier. It runs on a rechargeable Lithium battery, has perfectly crisp sound and the picture is good as well (w/night vision of course). It also displays room temp and again, when it's not plugged in, it runs on the lithium battery which holds a great charge. We have a relatively large house so it was important that we got good range and little interference. A big plus is also that the video is run through data encryption so that it's very secure against people hacking into the data feed, which apparently is more of a danger than many think (we have a friend that worked in child crimes unit on the force and he said there are a ridiculous number of pervs out there surfing data channels to pick up monitor feeds Ick! ).
