I just got the Facebook invite (don't get me started about how I think this is wrong) for my 20 yr reunion. It is $65 a person- so $130 a couple. For a venue outside in October in NW Indiana. Yeah it could be wonderful, hot, or cold and rainy... This cost includes open bar (DH is a recovering alcoholic and I do not have more than one drink when out) , roast beef /chicken dinner (think wedding chicken dinner), and sides. So add to this at least $80 for a babysitter ( 4 hr round trip drive) and gas. This reunion would cost me $230- just not worth it to me. I have a few people I would love to see- but really I think that is what Facebook is for LOL.

Well, I would guess they have a back up plan if it rains (I would hope!)
Mine was also about 60 per person, but my husband and I went to the same high school, so it wasn't like we were paying for someone to come who wasn't going to know anyone. We had a good time, and I didn't drink either because I was pregnant with A. We made sure a lot of our friends were going before we agreed though.
I would have gone, and I most likely would have just left DH home with DD since he didn't attend my High School and didn't really know any of my classmates.
It's the open bar aspect that takes the cost from 30-40 a person to 60-70 a person.
This past November I just ran our High School's 10 year reunion. I thought it would be a piece of cake with over 800 classmates to get between 150-200 in attendance.
What did a learn:
1. Dont ever sigh a contract, myself and the co-chair. lost a chunk of change since we couldn't get enough on board to meet the requirement of the venue.
2. You will never please anyone.
3. It seem no matter how far out from High school you get a majority of your classmates just want to be able to drink.

I haven't got to the 20 year just yet, but my 10 year was seriously a block from my house a few years ago. They wanted $50 per person and I didn't go because I thought that seemed ridiculous. So....there's cheap for ya.
I figure if I wanted to stay in touch with someone, then I did and I'll see them on my own time.

Totally this. I hated high school. No point in paying $50 a person to see a bunch of people I don't want to see. I've kept in touch with the people that I wanted to. The open bar wasn't even a selling point because I don't drink.
I think I'm in minority. I paid about $180 for my DH and I go to go to my 10 year reunion. We had a BLAST and he's already talking about my 15 year. The class officers held it at a Phillies game (the year they won the WS) so we watched them clinch the NL East for the first time in years. There's a bar attached the stadium which held a BBQ with 2 hour open bar for people who didn't want to go to the game. There were about 50 of us that went into the game. After the Phillies won the game we continued over to a big bar in the area and continued the party. I had to drag my DH away (who knew no one going into the day). I think it was about a 12 hour class reunion since it was a day game so the bar portion started around noon.
We both can't wait for the next one and would probably pay whatever to attend.
Yeah, but this sounds like fun. Most reunions are just open bars and awkward social encounters. Kind of like prom with alcohol.
