When we went to DS's 9 mo appointment last week the Dr said that DS could begin eating more complex foods instead of single item purees. Since then, he has had little pieces of chicken, spaghetti, muffins, dinner roll, lasagna, turkey sandwich, risotto, and several other things. We are also putting him on the "school lunch" except when they have uncooked fruits and veggies, eggs, peanut butter or other things he shouldn't eat yet. Today he will have fish sticks and applesauce. I was wondering if anyone else who started on purees has moved into letting their LOs eat regular table food yet? I was also wondering what most BLWs are feeding their LOs these days? Do you let your LOs eat spaghetti, fish sticks, turkey sandwiches, etc.?
Re: Trying More Elaborate Foods
yes, we started with purees and she decided about a month ago that she would much rather self feed. she's had pretty much everything we eat minus super spicy stuff. she had tandoori chicken the other night which is loaded w/ cumin and curry and she loved it.
what's wrong with uncooked fruit? DD eats fruit all the time and i would never think to cook melon, strawberry etc.
We have always done a combo of BLW and purees and yes, the food we eat is getting more complex. Last night we had salmon burgers and veggies. I made a burger with all the fixings, cut it in half and plopped it down in front of both kids. I was impressed with how well they did. I have also started adding more spices, etc.
Gotcha. We have done some uncooked veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, green and red peppers, mushrooms) that went pretty well too. I have given her strips of apple with the skin off and it went pretty well but I agree I wouldn't want a daycare giving it to her, it would make me nervous they wouldn't cut it up right.
We do BLW so LBB eats everything we do. His favorite food is tacos, although he loves sandwiches and a pork dish I make with spinach, cranberries, and raisins.
I've given him spaghetti, but he gets frustrated with the noodle shape so I tend to stick to pastas like penne, rotini, cavatelli, and ravioli.
We don't do fish sticks because I won't make them myself and the store-bought ones are full of preservatives and sodium which he shouldn't be having. I do make my own chicken and lamb nuggets for him.
And he hasn't had a turkey sandwich, because I haven't made turkey since he's been eating solids and I don't really want him to have lunch meat at this age - again, because of the sodium and preservatives. He does have chicken sandwiches, hamburgers, and he loves cheese and avocado sandwiches.
He does great with raw apple slices, pear slices, salads, etc. so I never worry about raw things.
E won't eat pur?es anymore, she refuses them. So she has been eating whatever we make for dinner and loves it. She especially loves chicken and spaghetti.
