Giant cupcake!!

So, who's making a giant cupcake for their LOs birthday?!?!?! I need ideas, stat! I found a mold for one in my m&ds pantry. I'm kinda pumped to say the least.

If you're making one, are you icing the bottom part?

  • Are you making all of them? What recipe are you using?

  • I embarrassed to say a friend is doing it. She has the pan. I didn't want to fork out 30-40 bucks for the pan then have to store it. My kitchen is bursting from that kind of stuff.

I saw this when googling pics of giant cupcakes and said this is it. I can buy the small ones at the store and LC can make the giant one. :) Looks super easy and yummmmy to me.

    Sorry it isn't clicky.

  • Don't be embarassed! What a cute idea. :) Parties are stressful and the more you can have people help you with, the better.

I think I'm going to make it into a circus tent. I saw a cute circus tent giant cupcake and since we're doing a little circus theme it'll be full of cute.

  • Nice! I love Carnival/Circus theme. We did that theme one year for Halloween, so much fun. Oriental Trading has some fun ideas.

  • I saw that they did! This is a party on a budget. I'm making most of the decorations and all of the food. We're doing face paint, hat decorating, sidewalk chalk, bubbles, and hula hoops. Most of which we already had I just had to pull them out.

  • I am!  The theme of the party is cupcakes, because DD is our "little cupcake," and I am set on making the giant cupcake for her!  I was lucky enough to have a friend lend me her pan, so now I just have to do a practice run.  I do no plan on frosting the bottom, but I will see what I think once I do the practice cake, then decide.  :)

I did my practice run today. I made one box of yellow butter cake and split it into two bowls. I used food coloring and dyed one yellow and one blue. Then, I made another box of strawberry cake mix and dyed it red. I put the blue in the bottom part of the cupcake, the red was in a square pan which I later cut out to be the center of the cupcake and the top is yellow. I used the rest of the strawberry batter to make small cupcakes. I haven't iced it yet. I baked the cupcake pan for 45 mins at 350 with the thicker side (bottom) toward the back of the oven. I may freeze it how it is and ice it Sunday for the party. But, I'm worried about messing it up. I'm not sure what to do now. :/ maybe have a couple extra boxes of cake mix around just I case.

Nice, thanks for sharing!  I've been trying to read up on some tips for baking it, since the top and bottom portions are different depths.  I will try your way, although I didn't realize the back of the oven cooks differently, hmm.

What do you mean you used the strawberry cake mix for he center of the cupcake?  Not sure I can picture what you mean.  Just curious!

And yes, if it came out good, then I would freeze it and save it!
