How many ultrasounds have you had?

I will be 26 weeks this week and I have only had 2 ultrasounds ordered by my doctors. Is this normal? The first one was to see how far along I was and the second was the gender reveal. I called the nurse the other day and she had that I needed to speak with the doctor at my next appt, which is Aug. 9th.

How many have you ladies had?

I have had three, the one for determining the sex was not routine though. It was in place of the NT scan. So, one for dating/confirming, one for determining sex, and the anatomy scan.

The a/s is usually done by now, from what I know anyway. I would ask about that specific sonogram being done.

4. 1 at 7 weeks, 1 in the ER during a scare, 1 at the sex reveal (paid extra at doctor's office), and 1 anatomy scan. Two would have been normal and standard for my office.

I'm 22 weeks this week and I've had 4.

1 to see how far I was (11 weeks)

1 elective/gender

1 a/s at the hospital

1 u/s for my friend who is an ultrasound tech and she needed a guinea pig for class.

I expect I'll only have 1 more, which is the 30 week u/s, where my doctor says they're check the baby's weight gain (pretty sure he said "fat deposits" but I'm not going to be 100% on this). That's a 3D/4D one.

Our first dating ultrasound resulted in two extra follow-ups to rule out ectopic pregnancy. Our second dating ultrasound was at 9 weeks. We declined the NT scan. Our anatomy scan was at almost 20 weeks. We go back at 28 weeks for a follow-up anatomy scan because baby's position didn't let them get all the views they wanted of the heart. So five so far, one more scheduled. Ideally we would have just had the dating ultrasound and one anatomy scan, though.

4 - dating ultrasound at 8 weeks, a quick ultrasound at 11 weeks because my midwife didn't think she could pick up the heartbeat on the doppler yet, anatomy scan at almost 20 weeks, and an elective ultrasound the next day to confirm the sex of the baby.

I think two at this point would be normal though, one dating and one anatomy scan (and possibly a third if you had a NT scan).

I was suppose to only get two, but have had 4.

1-Dating u/s at 9 weeks

2-u/s at 11 weeks because I had a tilted uterus, and the doppler wouldn't pick up the heart beat

3-started spotting at 14 weeks, ER gave me an u/s

4- Had a/s at 22 weeks.

I don't expect to have anymore unless my doctor feels the need to have one.

So far I have had 4.. and I will be getting one every 2 weeks in my 3rd tri because I'm carrying twins. I have had a dating u/s, NT scan (not mandatory but I wanted it), a/s and repeat a/s for missed pictures. So the norm would be 2 and possibly one closer to the end to check position but I don't know.

I was only supposed to have one, but I ended up getting two.

I had my a/s at 18 weeks/5days but had to go back at 23 weeks/4 days for a follow up since they couldn't get all of her heart measurements since she wouldn't flip over.

That will be it for me unless something concerning comes up.

2 is pretty standard for a typical pregnancy. I have had 2 so far, but will be receiving more as I am high risk.

I've had three. One at first visit and one for the a/s. The third was a level 2 because the a/s was abnormal.

I'm 24 weeks and have had 2...typically we only get 1 but they needed to do a dating A/S at 7 weeks.

That's it for me...unless someting is of a concern, there won't be anymore. That's just how the system works in New Brunswick, Canada. We can pay of elective ones at a 3D boutique type place but we only get one medically necesaary A/S at 18-20 weeks that checks anatomy and gender.

I've had 3 so far with one more at 30 weeks.

1st- Confirm pregnancy at 6 weeks (we did IVF to conceive)

2nd- Check growth at 10 weeks

3rd- A/S at 18.5 weeks

4th- will be at 30 weeks to check if Placenta Previa corrected itself.

One at 7 weeks to confirm the pregnancy, make sure there was just 1, and it was in the uterus

One at 11 weeks (NT scan)

One at 17 weeks for the anatomy scan

One at 20 weeks to get one view of the heart they couldn't get at the anatomy scan (they told me to wait an extra few weeks to repeat the anatomy scan so they'd do more measurements)

I'll be having more because I'm high risk due to Graves Disease, so they want to make sure the baby is growing well.

(ETA: Oh, and one was done by my friend who's an OB resident and she was trying to see the sex for me at 16 weeks because I was impatient)

3. One was the elective NT Scan. I probably won't have another one unless there is an issue.

I've had 4. One was intervaginal at 7 weeks to determine viability of the pregnancy. The second was the NT scan at 12 weeks (my favorite so far!). The third was an elective at 16 weeks to find out the sex. The fourth was the a/s at 21 weeks.

I've had 3 so far and one booked for Sept - 6th

1st - I started spotting at 10 weeks

2nd - Gender and a/s

3rd - Closer look at baby due to being diagnosed with SUA

I am scheduled for my 4th at 30 weeks to ensure he is growing properly

Where I'm from, one is all you get inless something is wrong. So far, I've only had my one at 20 weeks and hope I don't need another--although I'd love to see baby again!

2. Dating u/s (this wouldn't have taken place if I knew the date of conception or date of LMP, which I wasn't sure of) and a/s at 18 weeks.

My doctor said that's all the ultrasounds scheduled for a "normal" pregnancy but she'll get me in for another (with a wink) around 30 weeks. She's good about working with insurance. I can't imagine going over half my pregnancy without checking in on her! I would panic!!

1 - 6 weeks d/t bleeding

2 - 9 week follow-up and dating

3 - 13 week NT scan

4 - 19 week anatomy scan

5 - a quickie for someone learning to u/s.

I also had 2 quickies in emerg when i was in for something else. Ive seen baby a lot!

I'm 25wks and have had two and I won't be having anymore (as long as nothing unexpected happens).

I had one in the first trimester, as a "dating" u/s.

My 2nd was the A/S.

Even though it'd be awesome to have one every visit, or every other, or just one more even, it probably won't be happening. I thought that two was pretty normal.

I've had 2 and that's all that I will likely have this pregnancy if everything goes right. I had an early dating u/s since I was still breastfeeding when I got pregnant and got pregnant right after my first PP period and then the A/S at 20 weeks. With DS, I just had the A/S at 20 weeks.

I think that's pretty typical. I'm 25 1/2 weeks and have had 3, however, one was an elective U/S.

2 is normal or standard. I ended up having 3 this time around. 1 at 7 weeks, then another one at 9 because at the 7 week u/s they found 2 sacs, but only one developed so he wanted to see if the other one had dissolved or not. Then I just had the gender u/s at 22 weeks. That'll be it unless something happens.

With my first 2 pregnancies I only had 1 at 20 weeks.

This one I will have 2, only because I had an earlier one at 15 weeks to determine how far along I was since there was a question as to an exact date.

So far I have had 2. Usually my doctor's office only does 2 during the whole pregnancy but due to a scare around 7 weeks, we got an extra one. So 1 at 7 weeks, another at 20 weeks to determine sex and measurements, and the last will be around 30 weeks.

I'm the odd one, I have actually lost count but I think about 10. One at 5wk, 6wk, 7wk, one at the ER around 7wk, one for spotting at 11wk, plus the NT scan, A/S, and I had a repeat A/S. I have had at least 2-3 others at MFM and starting after my visit next week will start having growth scans every 2-4 wks.

That being said, I am pregnant as a result of fertility treatments hence all the early ultrasounds and I am carrying twins and at risk for PTL for previous cervical issues so I am having frequent ultrasounds/monitoring.

I've had zero....ever, actually (I have 3 older children). I don't believe that ultrasounds are medically necessary unless there is an actual medical issue (and a normal pregnancy is not a medical issue). My homebirth midwives have all believed the same as I do, and would have recommended I have an ultrasound if an issue had appeared. I'm 24 weeks with this pregnancy, and even with me suspected that I could have twins, I don't plan on having an ultrasound. And since my midwife is comfortable with a twin homebirth after a normal healthy pregnancy, I have nothing to worry about. (I know, there are a whole multitude of "problems" that people can and probably will list that can be discovered with an ultrasound...but I don't feel that the potential risks of an unnecessary and not totally 'proven' intervention outweight the things that I could find "wrong". If my very experienced midwife feels differently after this or any other appointment, I will follow her advice.)

I've had a lot- one at 5w, 4 at 6w (3 in one day because I had cysts that needed to be monitored), one at 7w, one at 8w, one at 9w, N/T at 12w, A/S at 20w. I have a fetal EKG this Thursday, and then I'll have a growth u/s in October as well. I was with an RE until 8w, which is why I had weekly u/s up until that point. The echo is due to family history, not because of a problem with our LO (we hope- everything has looked great until this point), and I think they scheduled the growth u/s simply because my insurance must pay for it.

I'm 25 weeks and I've had 5. I have a 6th one scheduled for next month. I had two dating u/s because the first one showed that I wasn't as far along as we had originally thought. I then had one at a specialist's office after having abnormal bloodwork. Then 2 different anatomy u/s (she was being stubborn and they couldn't get a good view of everything the first time around). They are having me come back around 28 weeks to check growth due to that abnormal b/w I had early on. I'm hoping the 6th one is all they need!

Standard at my practice is 2.
