I don't like the idea of doing anything to a person's body that is invasive or permanent without their consent, even my own children. DS isn't cirumcised for this whole reason, if he wants to do it later, thats his choice. The same reason it's good for safety reasons its also good for criminal reasons, as anything like that can be tracked by anyone with enough knowledge to do so. Cell phone tracking is enough for my needs.

Right of the bat I say no- She's not a pet that I let roam the yard with no supervision. She's always with either DH or myself.
BUT- the thought of needing to know where she is and I have no idea Is frightening ..it's something I'm intrigued to ask DH ..
HA! My initial reaction was the opposite. I said "Heck Yes" in my head. DH watches too many of those shows about missing people, murders, and such... It's in my head.
I would want to be able to find DD in any circumstance, and heaven forbid, something did happen to her, I would want to be able to locate her... I can't type the rest of that sentence. I tried...

I am not arguing, I agree with this too for permanent stuff like tattoos. However, too many bad people out there know to turn off cell phones or to take the batteries out. Most of the disappearance shows they have and crime TV shows... The cell phone is always found either somewhere else or on the body with it turned off and the battery removed....
My fear and reasoning behind the tracking device would not be to "trace" or keep an eye on my child but to locate them if something bad were to happen.

No. It feels like a major violation of privacy to me. And, because I watch so much Law and Order, who is to say the "Bad Guys" wouldn't just carve it out anyways, negating any possibility we'd find her in an abduction situation?
Since my DH is educated in ethical hacking I will say that if our children take after him they will have no problem breaking into their GPS and changing the signal so I have no clue where they are anyway. The same goes for a "bad guy". They could use the signal to track down a kid they want to take, scramble the signal, or as a PP said, just dig it out.
This reminds me that I need to get the appointment to get my dog chipped, though, so thanks!
No never, I wouldn't even microchip a pet for that matter. Yeah some of you may argue about it being for "safety" but seriously this big brother thing is going out of control these days. If a kid really wants to runaway or someone wants to abduct your kid trust me people can find a way around a microchip. Besides, anyone ever consider the possibility of these chips causing cancer or some other unwanted side effect?

Never. It scares me to think about her as a teen and not knowing where she is, but I would never put a microship in her.

No. We could track her other ways if we wanted to.
this is a very cryptic comment . As for me, I don't honestly really know. I would never forgive myself if something happened and at some point I had had the option but passed. On the other hand, she is my child, not a dog. So, my answer is I don't know, and probably wouldn't be able to decide until it was areal possibility and DH sat down to discuss it. That is such a lame cop out answer .

I have a degree in criminal justice and criminal profiling and I agree, a cell phone most likely isn't going to help find your child if abducted, but thats so unlikely I don't really have that fear. I would just be more afraid I would use it to snoop on my child and I prefer to have enough faith that I raised them well enough I could trust them while out of my sight (as teenager, obviously not a child.)

Agreed! At least in my mind, I would say yes to something that would be used only in emergences, and not be within my abilities to track for everyday things. My reasoning for saying yes I would consider it is not because I want to be able to find DD wherever she is at; but for that worst case scenario. In cases like that only the police could use it to track and of course to truly be effective it would have to be implanted at different locations for each individual so that the "bad" guys would not know where to locate and remove it.

I try to avoid the crap on the news, but the bit that I catch here and there makes me think I would microchip DD until she turns 18. Then it would be removed. I'm a bit paranoid, but I guess that's what having a child later in life does to you, unfortunately.
Absolutely. Not for when she's a teenager...but for when she's a kid, just in case she were ever to wander away and get lost. I do it with my pets, who also can't talk to tell someone who they are and where they come from.
